Buying tickets for US sports

Hi, Does anyone have experience they could share of buying tickets for US sports in advance of travel? I've had a search around and can't find anything specific.

For me in particular I'm looking to get tickets for an NBA game in March.
Ticketmaster is sold out of all but the most expensive seats.
It looks like there are facilities for season ticket holders to sell on their tickets and they can then e-mail them on but I can't work out.
There is a Ticketmaster marketplace but I tried to register and you require a US address.
Stubhub.com looks like you can register if you're UK based but then says my post code is not valid.
Ebay.com also have tickets for sale but I'm not sure is that is "allowed".

Cheers, Mike.

If the seller (on ebay) is willing to sell you the tickets and ship them overseas....shouldn't be a problem. We did that before. Not with Sports tickets but with comedy tickets for Atlantic city.

  • We were able to get very reasonable priced seats via the Tourist bureau in San Fransisco for a Giants Baseball Game about 4 years ago. I know its obvious but have you googled the team to see if they have thier town website and box office?. Hope this helps

We ended up buying NBA basketball tickets from e-bay, it was very straightforward, very reasonably priced (we paid $8/seat on a Nationwide Credit Card) and I would recommend buying tickets in this way.

PDF tickets were e-mailed to us that we then printed and took to the game. There was a barcode that we scanned at a turnstile, a security guy then tore the ticket to show it had been used, and it was then checked by a member of staff at our section who helped us find our seats.

The seller seemed to be selling on his season ticket on a game by game basis. Season ticket holders seem to have the facility to print tickets to PDF and pass them on to others.

I'm still not sure if selling these tickets on e-bay is the official way to resell but there are plenty on there and everything worked out fine for us.

    Pacajam.

PS The basketball was brilliant and it'd recommend it to everyone. More like theatre or a Disney show than a sports game with the lights and music, real family entertainment with loads of kids there. We were sat at the highest / furthest back section which was absolutely fine to see everything going on. Note that although the seats were cheap it was quite expensive for beers and hotdogs.

If you can't get any prior to the day go to the stadium anyway. There will always be touts selling outside.
Depending how well the team are going will determine what they're asking for them.

Recently we had no joy with stubhub, same problem with the postcode and an email I sent to them never got a reply

Anyway a quick look on ebay.com managed to get us tickets to a yankees game in Aug which were sold out on ticketmaster etc, so maybe a lookie lookie on ebay may come up with some results.

I was hoping to get tickets for a Miami Dolphins game - preferably at home but would consider away. I emailed through the Miami Dolphins site but a week on there's been no response.

Bit nervous about ebay if it turns out to be dodgy and I've paid for two flights from Scotland...

As far as I'm aware it is only UK football tickets that you can't sell on ebay, evrything else is fine. If you're worried buy from somebody who has plenty of +ve feedback from selling tickets.

Your best bet for Dolphins tickets is ticketmaster.com. We did that a couple of years ago, and just picked the tickets up at the stadium. We did the same for a NBA game a few weeks ago (Boston Celtics). Had no problems either time.
