EDF Capped - Advice needed please??
We have a capped tarriff with EDF energy which ends in March 2010. We've received a bill for over £2,000 for our gas and electricity, and we dont understand why it is so high as we are paying £70 per month for both gas and electricity.
We queried the bill with EDF as we were worried we would have to pay the £2,000+ despite our account being capped. Their response was this:
"The Fixed rate on the account refers to the unit price that you would be paying and not the amount of the Direct Debit. Your Direct Debits get reviewed every 6 months and the next review is due on your next bill with us. The review will look at your average usage and spread the balance out to your next review date. If you would like your Direct Debits increased now to spread the amount sooner please contact us on 0800 096 9000."
We are really confused, as we thought not only our direct debits were capped but also the prices at the time we signed up and we dont understand why our bill is so much!
Does anybody understand it that can help?
Thank you

The price you pay per kWh is capped. It's not an all-you-can-eat buffet. Of course the direct debit is not capped - you pay for what you use.0

Are the meter readings estimated? If so, check against your meter. If they are accurate, you will need to be repaying the outstanding balance £2000 less payments made) so you need to start saving for the next review.0

If you've just joined this tariff then check the reads you gave when you changed the tariff. also if you moved into this house and took over the account from the prevouis owner please check the dates and reads as you may be paying their bill.0
