hard "driver" for a socket set

hiya,
I've bought 2 socket sets in the last wee while and both times, the "driver" bit bends.
(I hope I'm using the correct word)..as far as I know, the diver is the bit that joins the socket and the handle..
The driver seems to be the weak link.Is there somewhere that I can buy an ultra strong driver?
many thanks,
yogi

Yogi...Bears need much stronger tools than ordinary mechanics.
You are probably using a socket set that has a small drive size (the square bit that the socket clips onto)
1/4 inch sets are only really for small nuts and bolts.
3/8 inch sets for general around the house/ light car mechanikin.
1/2 inch sets are usually strong enough for most non industrial jobs.
That said, I own a "Teng" 1/4 inch drive that is 10 years old and indestructable.
and I use my 3/4 inch for all the big stuff.
What brand name are you buying ? cheap tools are a waste of money IMO.;)“Careful. We don't want to learn from this.”0 -
Check out the Halfords range of "pro" tools as the come with a no quibble lifetime guarantee (keep the receipt though) they have an offer on now for a 120 piece toolkit for £99 down from £145.

you should never buy cheap makes, for things like socket sets. the best ones will last a lifetime.
the cheap chinese ones really are cr ap.Get some gorm.0 -
Teng is excellent, cosidering the prices. I have a 3/8" set for around the house. And keep the bigger snapon stuff for work.

hiya,
Ta for the replies.I'm not a pro tradesman , and am just using it to tighten the pedals to the centre of my bike..I'd be lucky if I used the socket set every week.I got it out of focus for less than a tenner.
I understand that buying pro tools would be better, but obviously they seem pretty dear.Would it not be possible just to buy a "pro" driver?
Thanks,

MOst places (Halfords and my local motor factors) let you buy singles, so you could buy the ratchet and the socket size you need.
I bought a halfords scoket set years ago and it has gone through its paces pretty well without failure. No idea what it cost, but knowing me not more than £50.0
