Self Catering in North Wales

Hi...I am interesting in going on holiday for a week to North Wales (Snowdonia /Caenarfon). I've visited this area as a child some 25 years ago, and remember the Portmadog/Cricceth area as being a good base.
There will be 3 in our party, 2 adults and a 3-year-old, all of us like getting out and exploring. So we were thinking Castles, Beaches, Steam Railways and National Parks.
Any recommendations from you guys would be appreciated but we would be looking for Self Catering.

Try Park Resorts. They have a lovely caravan park in North Wales that I've stayed in a few times over the years. Really clean and good activities for the kids.0

Check out this thread for Haven http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=215030&highlight=haven
Its still giving a good discount on Haven hols -click on the right hand side, book now (under the 50% off)
Hafan Y Mor would be a ideal, this is in Pwllheli which is a good base for that area. Just a short drive to Criccieth (Castle) and Porthmadog (Ffestiniog Railway)
Also nearby is Portmeirion, Caernarfon Castle + Snowdonia and the Snowdonia Railway, Betws-y-Coed, Llechwedd Slate Caverns
Abersoch in the other direction has lovely beaches with a bit of a surfing feel to the place
Hope thats helpful.. hope you get sorted

Try sites where you rent direct from the owner, holidaylettings.co.uk for example. These are all self catering properties, bar a very small number.
These properties all sleep three people and are suitable for under fives: http://www.holidaylettings.co.uk/north-wales-snowdonia/hom_children_under5_yn.1/hom_sleeps_max.3/orderby.price/
It's a great part of the world for a family holiday, good choice!0 -

i personally wouldnt recommend park resorts in north wales, i think that camp is called Ty Mawr and its based in Towyn.
However i do stay in Towyn as a base, as we like to go into north wales and explore.
Towyn is a small seaside resort, on the north wales coast, i hire a caravan every here every year, as we like to be close to the shops, markets ect.
i have stayed in portmadog and pwllheli but i tend to feel out in wild. so we now just tend to go there for days out and return back to Towyn.
You can find caravans to hire privately at good rates. i wouldnt book with haven or park resorts, as we have found some of the caravans, to be scuffy.

I would check out:
www.cottageguide.co.uk - their search for s/c in Wales in comprehensive and divided into areas.
check out anything you're interested in booking on either:
www.therealvisitorsbook.co.uk (guest written recomemndations - and good for browsing) or
www.mycottageholiday.co.uk (guest written reviews)

absolutely stunning cottages, in some amazing locations. Anglesey is a great place to base a North Wales Holiday, would highly recommend!
My favourite is T'yn Towyn near Cable Bay on Anglesey, it is amazing!!!
would be a perfect size for 3 of you, and you wouldn't be disappointed :-)In 2010 I intend to lose 36.5lbs and gain 365 £s
