What to do? - One day in Los Angeles

We are staying in LA for two nights as part of a two week trip in April:j .
It works out that our one whole day there will be Easter Sunday!

What would anyone who has been to LA suggest as the best way to spend our one day?
Originally, when we booked, we planned to go to Universal Studios, but the bits we wanted to see burned down in the fire last year! so probably (for us) not worth the expense.

The hotel we are staying in is in the Hollywood and Highland complex, so we can do the stars in the pavement etc stuff easily either the afternoon we arrive or the morning we leave.

Thinking about spending the day either having a general explore of all the other touristy bits, Rodeo Drive, La Brea, Santa Monica, etc - but as it will be Easter Sunday, which I know is a public holiday, will lots of places be closed?

Possibly considering Disneyland - is it a bit far from where we are staying? also, is it a bit of a shame to spend our only whole day there and not to see some of the rest of LA?

Any other suggestions?

You could spend your day in L.A. at the Universal Studios theme park and the attached City Walk outdoor mall. Or you could take a picture of the Hollywood sign. (No, you can't drive to it. You can't even walk to it; there's a fence. So, from Franklin Avenue in Hollywood, turn uphill onto Beachwood Canyon Drive and take a photo halfway up the street. Or et a taxi to drop you off at the end of Beachwood and hike 30 minutes to get really close.)
You could stroll down Hollywood Boulevard to Grauman's Chinese Theater and look at all the celebrity handprints and footprints, pose for photos with the weirdos who dress up as superheroes and ask you for money, then go hang out the Hollywood and Highland Center mall. You could spend the day gawking at the expensive stores on the twisty part of Rodeo Drive. You could drive 45 minutes south to Disneyland. or ...


Non-denominational Easter service with multi-denominational clergy and a 240 voice choir, 250 children in the Living Cross and Children's Choirs in nature's cathedral, decorated with thousands of Easter Lilies and ending with the mass release of the White Birds of Peace.

griffith park has some amazing sites , and its free

warner bros studios tour is pretty good(edit might be closed easter)

expect all the parks /beaches to be very busy

LA is a big place so you may have problems getting around, especially if it's Easter Sunday, and it can take over an hour to get to places due to the size of LA! eg from West Hollywood to Venice Beach by bus takes 70mins!

Try contacting the hotel you are staying at to see if they run tours/trips or can recommend companies to you that pick up from the hotel to avoid the transport problem.

Disneyland is fab but may well be packed to the rafters on Easter Sunday.

We will have a car so are not relying on public transport.

Disneyland may well be packed..... will other places be closed though?

Had thought about Warner Bros, but only runs Mon-Fri.

I'm expecting public spaces to be busy, as it is a public holiday - does this mean lots of other places will be closed?

jsut to remember that car parks are generally very expensive. can pay up to $20 dollars for a car park.

Thought that was a rather strange reply, I even had to read your Op again thought I must have missed something:eek:, and if you wanted a good seat it would be 3.30 am!!!!!! Free parking as well

Ah you did not mention car in your post!

Car obviously solves the transport issue. You may just want to cruise about to see some of the sights if nothing else appeals to you. Head down towards the beach and go from there? Or buy a guide to the the stars houses and follow that?

Your best bet then would be to look at the websites of places that you are interested in to see if they are open Easter Sunday. I would have thought that the majority of big name places will be open .

i doubt many places will be closed , its a tourist area and theyre pretty open always except christmas day/thanksgiving

disney is always busy..get there early and you should be okay , the roads may be a little nicer because its a holiday
