We are going to the NEC soon and also want to visit the city centre, I was thinking of parking at the train station car park (£6 all day) am I right in thinking this is a short walk away from the NEC? Is there anywhere cheaper??

The station car park is close to walk to the NEC. NEC car parks can be quite distant and can involve waiting for shuttle buses or a longish walk.
Are you sure that the railway parking charge is 6 pounds/day? I would have thought it might be more than that. What are NEC charging for parking? For some trade shows I have been to parking has been free in their car parks.
Another option is to park near another station and get the train in. There have been previous threads on this suggesting convenient stations.0 -

the walk from the tain station to the nec is undercover and is about 5 mins walk (depending on where on the nec site you are going, as it is very big take a look here http://www.lgarena.co.uk/travel/train (ps incase you are confused ref the link, the nec has been rebranded the LG arena)MFW#105 - 2015 Overpaid £8095 / 2016 Overpaid £6983.24 / 2017 Overpaid £3583.12 / 2018 Overpaid £2583.12 / 2019 Overpaid £2583.12 / 2020 Overpaid £2583.12/ 2021 overpaid £1506.82 /2022 Overpaid £2975.28 / 2023 Overpaid £2677.30 / 2024 Overpaid £2173.61 Total OP since mortgage started in 2015 = £37,286.86 2025 MFW target £1700, payments to date at April 2025 - £1712.07..0 -

I have looked on the National Rail enquiries website regarding car park charges at the Birmingham International Rail Station and they state £6 per day. I will phone the station and check although it seems about the right price, it's roughly the same as we have paid before at other stations. I will also look at other stations, thank you.
As for fre parking at the NEC, I think it depends on what you are going to. We are going to a concert and they ALWAYS charge for that !! Only £7 in advance but I am trying to save money! Maybe I will look to see if there are any other events on that day that offer free parking, maybe I could blag myself a free one, do you have to show your event ticket???!!!To be in your child's memories tomorrow, be in their life today.0 -
Parking at the station does cost £6, it is also much easier to get away quickly at the end of the concert from the station carpark rather than from the official NEC carparks.0

In my experience you can always reckon on long queues of traffic (half an hour wait at least) after concerts at the NEC, thought might depend on who you're going to see!
As suggested, it would make more sense to park in the station car park (managed by Virgin Trains), but at the moment they're building a new multi-storey car park on the site of the existing car park. Parking spaces are therefore reduced, so if you arrive between 09.00 and 16.00 on a weekday it might be difficult to find a space.
Do you have the option to take a train to Birmingham International? It's only a short walk from the Arena.0 -
you are allways welcome to park outside mine, you can get a family ticket on the bus/rail combined for about 7.50 if the parking works out expensive.
pm if you want to take up the offer.

Awww thanks, how kind is that!! It is only £7 in advance to park at the NEC so if we can't get a space at the train station then we will park at the NEC, thank you very much for your kind offer though xTo be in your child's memories tomorrow, be in their life today.0 -
I have read this thread, but I am confused. We need to park on Friday to go to the NEC, but I can't see where you can book parking before you leave. Never been to Birmingham before, so don't really know what I am doing. Does anyone know who I call to book the parking before we get there? If dogs don't go to heaven, then I want to go where they go. :A0

I think it depends on what Concert/ Event you are going to? You need to check on the website.
We were going to a concert at the LG Arena. We got there at about lunch time though and no one was on the gate for car park, I was told there would be someone there to pay when we left that night but guess what......... FREE PARKING !!! There was no on the gate when we left!To be in your child's memories tomorrow, be in their life today.0 -
I am going to Crufts and will be there by 8.30am. I call them up and they said to just park and then pay on your way out, but how do you know which car park to park in?If dogs don't go to heaven, then I want to go where they go. :A0
