The attraction of Central London & West End hasn't been there, for me, for years & years.

Oxford Street has more trashy shops than some of the 1960's shopping areas which were demolished to make way for the Lakesides of this country - much nicer enviroment to spend your time spending in, too - even if every oither 'Mall' is a replica.

& for some reason, I watched Soho Blues on tv the other night, yet another cop-umentry prog, but what I didn't realize was how unpleasent Leicester Square is after 11pm!!??

People making a journey there, to get drunk & have a fight (with Police) !! CRAZY!!

    & that's our Capital City!!!

The touristy, mainstream parts of major cities are always a bit dissapointing though, aren't they? There are many parts of London outside the main centre that are great for shopping, food and drinking: Brick Lane, Upper Street, Stroud Green, the various food markets, Hoxton Square, Neal Street and loads of others.

Wouldn't want to live there unless I earned £100k+, but I do love London.

Was in Covent Garden Friday, plenty of browsers, but not many carrying bags. Walked into Porters Restaurant and straight to table, never done that before
I have history with Covent Garden. There is a new devt of shops on the N Side (owned by Royal Opera House) that used to be a market. We had a stall on that site on Mondays for 3 years. I used to stuff the high ££ notes down my trousers (or hotpants in the summer). We left long before it was closed but some Mondays I would have 2 grand stuffed down my pants.

Joe Allens is my most fave place in the world...have been going there for over 2 decades.
Last time, 4 years back (bearing in mind I have been credit crunched the past 4 yrs) was a staff night out. Jerry Springer show sat Drury Lane (I think) and then Joe Allens.....and then all the cast trooped in and OH got chatting to Rachel something from S Club and spent the snight swooning.
But I got to meet the devil from Springer show.
I miss my London life sometimes.

We hit CG last week. We were surprised that some of the concession type units in the undercover bit were empty and the entertainment just one statue and one magician. Perhaps it was due to being mid week? I also thought that people didn't look like they were shopping much.

The restaurants we ate in were busy when we left (about 6).We managed to get table easily but did eat early around 4 oclock.

The Natural History Museum was manic when we left at lunchtime with a queue outside right down past the science museum! The Dinosaur area had a really long queue - we had a short queue to get in the main building but went straight into the dinosaurs when we arrived at opening time. The cafe was doing a roaring trade! If only they ahd a few more seats they'd have done even better.

The show WWRY looked full from where we were sitting mid week, evening. Good result for a mid week although how many were full price, I don't know. We went for half price.

I really enjoyed Neal Street area. More so than Carnaby Street which had the odd fun shoe shop but nothing else appealed to me.

All I could think of when walking down Regent Street was how the Iceland Banks and hilip Green had taken over the world! We soooooo need a change although I am very sorry we are all going to pay for it.

sue...if he cant explain compound interest to you...dump him as he will be no good with money...

He already thinks I am a bit of a nerd when I started going on about house deposits, SVR's, trackers, LTV etc (he is looking to buy a property shortly) and advising caution when shopping to equip his new house when he does buy.

Oh and I know he is good with money already....he has a good deposit saved, the numbers fair made my eyes go squiffy! :D
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

Blimey, last time I went shopping in London was in 1987! The last time I visited London was 2004ish (could have been 2003) and we don't live that far away either.

It was just a general discussion and me being me, I asked if he had a decent deposit to get the better rates and he wasn't stretching himself too much. I honestly thought he was going for something out of his reach and was trying to softly let him know they didn't do high multiples anymore....and then in the course of the conversation, all was revealed.

Has made me rather eekk to be honest, he may well be out of my league and standing and I would probably drive him crazy with my stingy/budget ways but he says it doesn't matter to him.

LOL, some of the loveliest relationships I see are 'league crossers' and whats more money don't make a league topper. Thanks for clarifying that he's not trying to dazzle you with figures;)

He'll be talking about his endowment next;)
