I can't believe that HSBC wouldn't accept a Photo Provisional Driving License as proof of ID

what did you use as proof of address?

I used passport as ID and license as address
  • Why does not OP consider a Cash Isa a/c - most can be opened with £10.
Won't get much interest if any in today's climate but would be a first step in the mindset of saving for things which would be a great step in staying out of debt.
  • I opened my Natwest Step account on line - it was very quick and easy and no ID was required although I'm sure checks would have been done. My card arrived within a few days and the account was up and running very quickly.
Debt 30k in 2008.:o Cleared all my debt in 2013 and loving being debt free :)
    Mortgage free since 2014 :)

i have a sainsburys cashcard account- can do standing orders i think, otherwise its ATM access to cash only. pay in by BACS, or cash at branch of RBS (chqs by post only? that may only relate to my local branch, which changed to 'business' dealing only, though I still squeak through the cracks!

can check online, and also do limited transfers to nomiated a/cs.
automated phone line to check balance etc too.

Am sat here chuckling. HSBC just rang me as a curtesey call to see how I was getting on with the account as I'd been with them since February and hadn't got any money in the account as yet.

I only took the info to them on friday and ID to them on saturday < LOL > I havent even got the sort code or acc number through the post yet. It's all been approved though and he's going to send me an Internet Banking stuff through the post as well.
