new suite or make do ?

I have spent most of today , well from 10am out looking for a new suite both online and in stores. OMG have you seen the prices:eek:
Now I have a problem , the suite I have is 9 years old, hardly used as in "front room" and is a two seater with full cushions on back and 3 setter with large loose cushions, my hubby hates it , kids hate it and I hate it after someone sits on it trying to make it look tidy again.
The suite itself is sound and after looking all day today have 2 problems........
1.To buy online from say Argos........ok I know quality probally cr*p....leaves us with the problem of not being able to " try before we buy" and after sitting on a lot of sofa's today I know this could be an issue.
2.After many years of being in debt and now being debt free and having the money to buy new suite cash I just cannot justify paying maybe £1000 for a suite that will maybe be used one a month for a few hours.
We have started to strip wallpaper so room has to be decorated, needed it badly, but now feel like just keeping suite as it is or seeing if I can get cushions reupholstered and maybe new solid back cushions made for 3 seater and do away with the loose ones. The suite is a solid colour so should be able to get a contasting one for cushions to match.
Now sure how much this option will be , 2 large back cushions and then 8 new covers.( 4 seats and 4 backs)
HELP

Why do you hate it? Will recover make it any better?
If money is tight you might consider second hand. Check free cycle / Try an advert in your local rag.
Unfortunately you have just missed the January sales, where we bought a new suite @ 25% off. Hence I currently have an add for a small sofa which is in perfect condition and nearly new. Please note, not trying to sell you this, but merely use it as an example. To be honest, I have had 2 sofa's from Argos,1 from DFS and 1 from Harveys. Care to guess which ones I was happiest with?
The DFS one was like yours, every time someone sat on it, it had to be replumped and tidied.
The Harveys one was ok, but the recliner action got a bit stiff n squeaky.
The 2 from Argos were great sofas! Kinda wish I had went there this time, now i'm stuck with a squeaky recliner.
I know what you mean about not getting to try b4 you buy tho, this has certainly put me off. So if you are going to get it from Argos, make sure it's one that you really really like.4 Stones and 0 pounds or 25.4kg lighter :j0 -
Have a look at ebay. You can sell yours and buy another one that you like.
We got a four month old corner sofa from Ikea for 250 quid - it was nearly 900 in the shop! Don't presume that everything on ebay is either brand new or knackered - people move house and perfectly good stuff just doesn't fit anymore.
Mostly you can arrange with the seller to go and have a look at big things before you buy them. Even if you buy them and go and pay cash on collection you aren't committing money to something you haven't seen,Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

Have to agree with doozergirl re ebay. Why not put yours on ebay and if it sells then worry about replacing it. Also if you only sit on it for a few hours every now and then have you considered a different use for the room? We have three boys 8/12/14 and decided when we had finished renovating our house that instead of having a 'nice' living room it would be better for our family to have a games room instead of a sitting room that we barely used save for occasions when we had guests. Made the room into a games room for xmas buying a pool table etc. Result is that boys downstairs more and more likely to have friends around than 'play out'. This makes us happy as we know where they are and what they are doing. Doesn't have to be forever does it?0

What's wrong with it? Is there actual damage or is it just looking a bit tired? It's amazing what even just a good steam clean can do - and a few scatter cushions can really bring it up-to-date. I should know, my three-piece suite has been going since 1959! (when my Dad was only four years old) and there's not a thing wrong with it.
If you really do want a change, do have a look on eBay - my friend recently bought a cherry red corner sofa for 99p.Mortgage | £145,000Unsecured Debt | [strike]£7,000[/strike] £0 Lodgers | |0 -
hi,
we have two sofas from ikea like this one -

Think they cost about £120 each - for the price they are pretty good really - had them about five years now and will hopefully last another five at least! lol You can buy replacement covers for them too if necessary.
If not got ikea near i think they do online sales and delivery now for some items (these sofas are called klippan by the way)
Was looking at sofas recently and even in charity shops struggle to get anything that cheap.
best wishes

I have had two very comfy and very cheap sofas from IKEA - Beddinge/ Resmo sofabed and Lillberg - and you can often get the precise one you have seen and tested out in the shop on eBay for less ... my old Lillberg is presently in the home of a friend who has expensive tastes and she says she LOVES it!Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0

thanks everyone for your replies, I looked on ebay, onine in all the stores and think we are going to Ikea AGAIN tomorrow to look at one we seen there, going to recycle the suite we have in this room into our other main living room and get rid of the old tired looking one from it .
Maybe stick it on freecycle as I am sure someone will take it , hopefully lolTOTAL 44 weeks lose. 6st 9.5lb :T0
