NTL equivilant of Sky+ ?

anyone know if such a thing exists or is planned? I dont really want to change my NTL package as I have phone & broadband too, but my son has Sky+ and it seems so much easier to record programmes. My VCR is on the blink and I dont want to buy another one.

Well, I hate seeing posts unanswered...

I do believe NTL have a pvr planned, I searched their site but couldn't find any official press releases. I've found plenty of unofficial ones and ones that discuss the telewest pvr. I think they will be fairly similar, i.e. three tuners, £10-15 quid a month.

Scientific Atlanta will be producing the NTL 'DVR'.
Whilst the NTL website does not seem to have any quotes, DigitalSpy reported on the NTL DVR back in October, complete with quotes from the VP of Scientific Atlanta, with direct reference to NTL.

thanks folks, guess its worth waiting until its launched, hope my old VCR limps to the post. I find there is a disadvantage though, because you cant ask anyone else to record a programme for you unless you go to their house to view it. Cant have it all ways can we?

ntl will be bringing out a PVR.

Currently there are 2 options for ntl... that is to continue with their current project for the pvr mentioned above, which is due to deliver to trial sometime in Q4 this year, so you can expect it to be on general release this time next year realistically.

2nd (and in my opinion more likely) wait until after the merger with Telewest and use theirs. This is still likely to take until the end of the year however.

    Hope this helps :-)

  • It has been said elsewhere that the NTL / Scientific Atlanta solution is basically the next model up from the Telewest solution.

The difference in solutions being Telewests box encodes in MPEG2 whilst NTLs box encodes in MPEG4.

The DigitalSpy Forum Thread When will the NTL PVR be available? seems best to describe the situation.
