Advice on house with damp

Hi,
Question for you knowledgable people....seen a house today that I like, and temtped to offer on it next week. It's a very good price, area I like etc etc. The only thing I've found that is cause for concern is that the garage and lower hallway (it's a 'townhouse' with the garage under the house) has recently been 'tanked' due to damp. I'd never heard of this until today, so just wondering what peoples views are, and what I should check for? I'll be getting my own survey done to ensure it is all done properly.
They've offered to show me the builders gurantee, and the work they've done is very good from first glances. Full new walls and floor downstairs.
This is the house, the ground slopes up right by it, so the first floor (if looking from the front) becomes the ground floor when you get to it. Hope that makes sense!

The fact that the back of the garage is therefore underground would be a concern. The fact that they've had it tanked is good for you - you want to make sure that you have the guarantees in hand and that they are transferable to you.
It depends on how long it's been since they had it done for you to know how successful it's been.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

guarantee on the tanking? will it transfer when they sell?0

Is the guarantee insurance backed? Otherwise you could find yourself with a guarantee that is not worth the paper it is written on if the firm goes bust.0

We had damp proofing done. When we got the guarantee through it wasn't stamped as being authentic. We never did chase it up and the buyer didn't mention it when we sold. It might be worth asking to have a good look at the actual guarantee.0
