any ideas please

hi all

after managing my first hols on my own with my two kids last year, i am contemplating having another this year. Trouble is, i have no idea where to go!

I have 2 girls, aged 12 and 2, and we went to a Haven park last year. This was great, although eldest was somewhat restricted in her activities due to having a little one tagging along - I guess this will be the same where-ever we go!! As an aside, my sister has offered to take little one for a week or so if i wanted to take eldest away on her own - must admit that it tempting, but the three of us are a family, and i am determined to all go away together - even if that adds to my stress levels!!

So (back to the point!) after only being abroad once (three years ago to eurocamp in France with a friend + her kids) and to Dorset once, i would love some ideas please??

Budget is not great - about £700 for the three of us - but cheaper would be great!!

  • when do you want to go and for how long?
  • Why don't you take your sister with you then she could look after the little one occasionally while you and your eldest go off somewhere together?
In addition to the 2 questions above, where would you want to fly from?

Can I ask when you want to have your holiday and how determined you are to go abroad?

If, as is forecast, we are going to have a great summer at home, perhaps you would like Newquay or Jersey?

    Mortgage-free Glee!
Act as a family when you are a family together but you 12 yo needs her own space so its up to you as a mother to keep each childs needs seperate. Hence stop your 2 yo from being a rotter or stop your 12 yo acting as a grown up taking care of the little un home or away

    ok

1 - looking late june or early july - cant afford to go in school hols

2 - flying from north east

3 - either uk or abroad, no preference really - Jersey sounds lovely!

greenface - not sure if i am being too sensitive, but i felt you were having a dig at me:confused: I know it is my responsibility to ensure both child's needs are met, and as much as i can, i dont expect eldest to 'parent' youngest! An example of what i actually meant - on hols last year, eldest (who has some additional needs) was trying archery. SHe needed a fair bit of support, and it was quite difficult keeping little one amused long enough so that i could focus on eldest.

Going away with sister isnt an option, as she already has her holiday booked, and cant get extra time off work.

    thanks for your replies

i have been looking at websites for Jersey - does anyone know if they have holiday parks (eg Haven) as i cant seem to find any!
  • if you can i would let your sister watch your little one so you can spend time with the elder child.
i have 5 children so the oldest two do spend a lot of time helping with the younger 3, i have a disability and breastfeeding the baby so we all have to rope in.
i recently went away with my mom and the younger 3 and next time i want to just take the older two so they have a proper break away from the little ones and i can get to spend time with them as small children tend to get a lot more focus as there needs are a lot more in your face.

i dont think you should feel guilty about it hun.

if you do want to go altogether though i suggest doing the ryan air/sep accomodation thing as it could work out a lot cheaper than a package.
    good luck

Hi I had to post as I took my 2 on holiday for the first time on my own last year. My kids are older than yours though 11 and 14 when we went.
After doing lots of research I decided on salou in spain, family friendly, compact resort with lots to do.
I booked very cheap flights from liverpool to reus, and then booked my hotel with thomson (went in the shop) total price was just over £250. (and the hotel was half board)
I pre-booked a transfer with a company I found on trip advisor and did abit of research on where to eat and what to do. We had a fantastic time and the weather was lovely (we went the first week of July) I was really nervous before I went but am so glad I did it. Any questions at all PM me x

Forgot to say, port aventura theme park was only 10 minutes away which has something for all ages, (there is a little road train to get there costs a coupe of euro's). In July you can get an evening ticket which is half price, less heat and crowds and great fun.
