your thoughts please

I had sold three needlework magazines early in december and I received and gave positive feed back then forgot all about it ...only a small amount.
Then low and behold I got a package last week from the blackhole in Belfast with the magazines inside plus a very tatty envelope. I checked back and emailed the buyer and she says yes she still wants them. I email her saying I will send them but first will invoice her for £2 postage. No she says its Royal Mails fault so I should claim and she will claim her money back through paypal. I write a polite note to her no its not RM fault I had sent it recorded ,the writing on the envelope says they left a note and then the package was not claimed (It was mislaid on its way back to me) I asked her if she would have know if the package was missing if I had not emailed her. After this I have heard nothing.
now have a message from paypal saying
We are contacting you to let you know that one of your buyers recently
visited the Resolution Centre and attempted to open a dispute against a
payment. The buyer wished to dispute the payment sent on 2 Dec 2008
This dispute has been deferred because it
was not opened within 45 days of payment.
Although this dispute is not eligible for negotiation in the Resolution
Centre, we have noted that the buyer was dissatisfied with this transaction.
We encourage you to work directly with the buyer to resolve this matter and
take this opportunity to provide customer service as you see fit.

Now what I would like to know will anything else happen to my account ?should I just ignore this or should I refund the money for the magazines minus the postage as a matter of good will, she has not asked for a refund or even said thank you for contacting her ?
Has anyone else had a similar case? your thoughts please

You sent the letter recorded delivery, am not sure how it would work, but theoreticly paypal would have proof you sent the item, it was not picked up by the buyer and that the buyer is at fault here not you and not RM (if its RM's fault, as far as paypal are concerned its also your fault).

I would personally wait for paypal to resolve it- submit the recorded delivery code and submit a description of what happened, its clear that you are not in the wrong, but I don't know if when things go through the resolution thingy, they are dealt with through a person or an automated system that just hands money back to the buyer.
  • Did you sign for it when you received it back? If not go onto RM website print off the page where it says 'Your item ref xxxxxxxx was attempted to be delivery on xxx from our xxxx office & a while you were out card has been left'. Send this to Paypal as proof that you sent it & they didn't collect.

    thanks for your comments
Yes I have all the paper work to hand.
Paypal say they did not escalate the claim as it was after the time limit. Has this happened to anyone else and if so did they hear no more?

someone tried to start a claim with paypal against me after the time limit, i had the above email letting me know that someone had tried to start a claim but it was too late and they made a note on my account. i've heard nothing from paypal about it since and its not affected me in any way as far as i'm aware.

buyer contacted me straight after trying to start a dispute and said she was going to take me to the small claims court, i told her to go ahead as i had proof that she was lying. not heard from her since. i think it was just before xmas.
  • i would email with two options

    1. for her to pay for them to be redelivered
    2. a refund minus postage and any fees that can not be reclaimed.

we all know that the postie doesnt always leave a card , so she may of not known there was a parcel waiting for her. she does have a responsibility to contact you in a timely manner informing you that the parcel had not arrived..

as its over the time limit for paypal ,its all up to you , but mind you have the money and the item , the buyer has nothing.
