I couldn't find this mentioned anywhere in the forums so apologies if someone else has already posted it.
I've just booked with Thomson who are offering free redundancy cover with their package hols. You basically get the price of your hol refunded (inc deposit) if you find yourself made redundant before the time of travelling. Conditions apply of course but the gist is that as long as you weren't under threat of redundancy at the time of booking you should be ok.
I mean it's a small thing....and probably covered by any decent travel insurance but if you're a skinflint with holiday ins like me...it's something else you don't need to pay for...

            Hi Slubberd
I do understand where you are coming from with this, money in your pocket rather than the TO. What you do need to ask yourself is "Just how safe is my job?""Can I afford to risk letting all that money I have paid for my holiday go if the worst was to happen?" If you can say either "I know I will not be made redundent" or " Yes I will except the lose of both the money I have paid as well as my holiday" then go ahead and decline the offer of the extra cover. We all know that we have {or Should} take out travel insurance and 96% of holidaymakers NEVER have to claim, therefore making it a unneeded expence but look at the horror stories of the small amount of people that get hurt badley while away and end up having to pay £1000's in hospital fees. I know {as we all hope} it will not happen to me but remember IT CAN!!Bite the bullet {have 1 or 2 less drinks each day} and if you are one of the masses that still has a job both at the start and end of your holiday be happy and except that {this time} you are a bit lower in spending cash but at least a few hours of overtime will soon replace what you spent on the cover0 -
I think it's a fair post rather than advoctaing not taking insurance. More just suggesting the redundancy cover provided means the policy you can take out can be more basic if required. (I'm not sure many insurance policies even cover redundancy anyway)0

As with any Insurance Policy, read the small print as it will not apply to everyone0
