Mobile Phone Mast / Power Transformers

Hi all,
Myself and the gf have found a house that we like on a 5 year old estate which we thought was overpriced (on market since mid Dec) so thought we'd have a look at it anyway and could always make an offer.
Went one night to have a look and house was really nice, loved the place but because was dark, couldn't really see outside. Went back in the day a few days later and was gutted to see what we saw:
a mobile phone mast

and also a mini-power station transformer thingy (between the 2 houses and above the house!)

Now we are wondering what sort of affect these will have on the value of the house. Like I already said, we thought it was overpriced at £150,000 as it was without these extras.
Should we make an offer or should we avoid like the plague!?!??!
Cheers

If you thought it overpriced before you saw the scenery, what do you think now?
You need to take a view on the health risks on living near phone masts and electric pylons.
If you view them as dangerous walk away now.
If you don't consider there are health risks (and the jury is still out on this), then accept the fact that others might. When you come to sell you will reduce your potential buyers both in numbers and price. This could mean you could get it at a good price now.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. We have also viewed another 3-storey town house that overlooked the back of shopping park. You couldn't see any neon signs or anything, just the back of the warehouse style buildings. There were some trees planted to block it out but being winter there were no leaves. Also, being 3 storey, I doubt the trees will ever block out the view from the top floor.
Bloody new builds. They seem to cram them in anywhere (next to train lines also) as if land is going out of fashion!!!!

Now we think its even more overpriced. But we thought maybe we could get a bargain especially since properties seem to move fast round here but this one has been on since December - now we can see why.
The GF is worried more about when we come to sell it, but I am more worried about health effects - we are both fit and healthy, I want it to stay that way!

So if you are at all worried about possible health risks - walk away.0 -
as already mentioned, the jury is still out on the health effects. For this reason I would personally walk away. I think I would always be worrying for the latest health report to make the news and "should" something be uncovered that may put your health at risk, you may never sell the house on.0
-
I would walk away too. Even if the jury is still out on the health risks there are plenty of prospective buyers who would not go anywhere near a house with those things near it. As it is such a big purchase I think if there's even a shred of worry in your mind, you shouldn't do it.0

I'm happy to take a risk on a house
but even I wouldn't entertain buying near a mobile phone mast. Apart from the possible health risks, it's going to be really hard to sell on. Not worth it. Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

I thought the jury is out on the mobile phone masts, but a study was published last year showing that the risks of childhood leukemia increased within 600m of a pylon. It was reported on the BBC website, so you should be able to find it somewhere. Personally, I wouldn't buy near either a phone mast of a pylon, so you should also think about resale...even if my fears are irrational, there is no way I would buy and others are probably the same.
Also, pylons sometimes make a "humming" noise - maybe go back on a still night if you are at all noise sensitive and make sure this one is quite!0 -
Here is a link summarising the BMJ report...not as clear as I recalled, but I would not even take the risk!

Thanks for all the help guys!
Not had chance to discuss this with the GF yet but I think we will give it a miss. I was thinking the same as you lot anyway but just wanted to get some advise / clarification, now you lot have helped me out, I can persuade the gf its not a good idea.
At the end of the day, houses are always coming on the market so something will come up soon!
