Travelling Liverpool to Prenton and back same day

Sorry guys as i am posting this on 2 different forums but i must have a reply soon. Thank you

Hi all. Youngest daughter is at Liverpool Uni and her digs are right next to Liverpool Lime Street. She has a work placement in a school in Prenton (Wirral) next week for 4 weeks.

Question, what is the best way to get there and what is the cheapest method of transport she can use? Are there weekly travel passes she can use etc. etc? Many thanks for your suggestions.

  • Hi,

try the Mersey travel web site

    http://www.merseytravel.gov.uk/choose_service.asp

select journey planner at the bottom

She's right in the City centre so will be able to get either the train through to wirral then the bus. Or get the bus straight through to Prenton from the town centre.

    Shouldn't be too difficult

The quickest and easier would be Merseyrail
walk around the corner (about 500 yards to Liverpool Central) or you could even get on at Lime street,
you need the Wirral line, it will probably be Birkenhead park or Birkenhead north which is the 2 or 3 stops on the other side (that being the Wirral side)

    check out merseytrail

there are various types of travel passes, weekly/monthly/yearly etc
you can also get different zones etc, pretty sure all this info will be on the site above
  • Thanks guys, all info most helpful.

Might be a bit late for today but may be of use for the rest of the week - have a look on this site and you can put in from Liverpool Lime Street and to Ridgeway High School and it will give you a few options using both bus and/or rail.

    Just seen this too sorry.

I would have said, train from Lpool and get off at Conway Park in Birkenhead.

Then all she would need to do is cross over the main road to the bus station and catch a bus which will take her to Ridgeway.

Not sure of the number of the bus she would need, but there are various stands in the bus station where they have maps/charts of what bus goes where.
Tank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty...
  • I'd say the bus is the easiest way, and if you get a season ticket with just one operator it's also the cheapest. The easiest is to get the direct bus straight from Liverpool to Woodchurch Road but that requires a one mile (ish) walk after the bus, so if she's lazy she'll have to change buses in Birkenhead. It's really not worth getting the train as the walk from the train station to Birkenhead Bus Station would negate the small time saving the train might give.

Arriva is the better company to choose as they run the services that go closer to the school.
