Turkey in the summer

Hi all
going to Turkey in the summer (marmaris) staying sensible here.Got quite a bit of space and weight in my case on the way back. Is there anything you can legally think of that you would bring back that is alot more expensive over here. Or make a few quid on to help pay for the holiday. Not much into "fill it up with tobacoo" but a few pair of calvin kleins and a few watches. Any more ideas

  • They are all fakes so if you get stopped they will be confiscated. Leather jackets etc are really good value as are towels and dressing gowns etc.

Is it illegal to bring back fake goods? i know Ciggies are a No NO as the penalties are severe........the fake stuff is usually good quality and about 1/3 the price...i was not aware this was illeagal and could be confiscated.......PS Turkey in summer it will be F........Hot!
  • We went to Turkey for the first time last year and i have 2 teens, my ds bought GSTAR jeans and DD D@G and other designer stuff and they are still wearing the jeans now they are that good. .

Dont buy the tshirts that are 5 for 10 pounds because they are really rubbish and tell how fake they are. Only buy the tshirts from inside the shops that are sold individually are any good and wash really well.

I bought fags as well but only about 1000 and i was shittin myself coming through customs at their end as there was notices everywhere saying you are only allowed 200. i felt like a smuggler even thouogh they were for me. They worked ouyt at about 15 pounds a sleeve.

PS as RODDYDOGS said it was flamin hot, i came home looking like id been grilled !!!!!!
  • My OH is STILL wearing a fake Timberland sweatshirt we bought in Turkey about 15 years ago! Granted it's looking a bit worse for wear these days and is now a "house sweatshirt" only but what good value it's been! We brought back a suitcase full of these "genuine fake designer" things the first time we went - kept the family supplied with birthday and Xmas presents for years! Not been to Turkey now for about 10 years so don't know how prices compare these days!

Carpets of course. But do your research so that you know what you are buying, and pay only what it is worth.

Would anyone reccommend anywhere in particular to get decent quality clothing or jewellery or watches and how much you can barter down in % is the bizzare as scarey as people say or is the market in icmeler better/less manic ? thanks for all the info some great advice

  • We went last year to Icmeler, were off to Lara beach in May. OH loved the market on a Wednesday at Icmeler, leather is good, we bought purses and they've lasted well. Perfume isn't that good as well as the cheap 5 for £10 t shirts. Best to take £ rather than lira to the markets as you'll get more for your money that way!

Im travelling light this time so i can bring back more, thomson allow 20kg and thomas cook are only 15 kg so won't be packing much lol :money:
Baby number 2 due April 2010, were having a girl!!! :j
  • icemeler market is really good but there was one stall holder who wouldnt take no for an answer off me and dd, it got quite scary actually he was chasing us with a t shirt. In the end i just screamed at him to f off and leave us alone which made everyone look, including the security. They get into a lot of trouble when they harass you vbut this is the only time in the whole stay that we had any aggro.
