How long do the police have to reply?

I recieved a parking ticket last month on the 8th of January, I sent my complaint letter on the 13th. Yesterday I got a reply saying my comments and the circumstances were considered, but I still have to pay the penalty.

That's over 30 days that it took them to reply, isn't this way to long?

I've tried looking on the net, but all I can see is that I should have recieved a reply within 14 days, not what happens if I don't.

So basically my question is that because the police replied to my complaint after 14 days (34 roughly), does it mean that I shouldn't have to pay the fine?
Thanks.

  • Depends.

Have you learned about where you should and shouldn't park?
  • I shouldn't have parked where I did no - but it was the circumstances of myself receiving the ticket that I complained about.

And I don't think the time taken to reply has anything to do with driving theory.

So you parked incorrectly/illegally, but the way you received the ticket should invalidate that?!

    Crikey.

I asked a question, and it would be nice if someone could answer it.

Just to be clear is this a Council PCN or a Police FPN?

Seems to me you were discussing the parking ticket, already admitted illegal parking, not sure what you are asking now.

  • Oxford it is a Police FPN

That is my question. and I am asking because I have been told by some family that this is the case, I'm looking for a second opinion, hopefully one with more knowledge.
  • So what did you complain about? Is it the fact you were were issued a ticket? Is it that you have mitigating circumstances or what? Without more information, noone will be able to give you an answer as your question is very vague.

OP, fighting an FPN is notoriously difficult, and failure to pay would result in an appearance in the Mags Court.

Why did you feel hard done by, and what was your complaint?

If it were a PCN and not an FPN, the OP could be right.
