Yorkshire Building Society Internet Savings Account

Hi,
When (And if) my house gets sold I will have around £121,000 to save, I was going to put £100,000 in YBS at 3.2%, £7,000 in Lloyds Vantage Current (Pays 4% up to £7,000), and the rest in my Lloyds ESaver account (Currently 2.50%), is that the best way or would I be safe putting it all in YBS even though the would be over the £100,00 limit (Its a joint account), or would it be risky ?, after all I cannot see YBS failing, but you never know !.

Have you used all your ISA allowance this year, if not put £7,200 in 2 cash ISA's fixed rate for you and wife, bang the same in again on April 6th. If you are Isa maxed out the next q is do you need access to it for say a year, if not, then bang 100k in the best 1 yr fixed rate you can get (joint account), there's fixes still to be got at 3.75%.

The YBS interest rate is going down by 0.5% from tomorrow. That might influence your decision.

Remember the FSCS only covers £50,000 consisting of capitol plus interest per person per licenced authority. Therefore if you invest 50k per person that is already the maximum covered so any interest earnt above that would be lost ! In other words make sure capitol plus interest for the term invested do not exeed 50k.
  • I assume that you are placing the £100,000 in a joint account.

It might be a better idea to put only £90,000 in a joint account.

    Norwich & Peterborough: 3.25% variable
Investec 3.59% this week - changes every week but always = average of top 5 accounts in Moneyfacts. Also pays £50 each to new applicant & referer. PM me for details.
    Egg 3.35% variable
  • I think Norwich + Peterborough will be adjusting some rates next week
