Help, Marshall Ward!!

I ordered the wii fit back in January and used my card to pay in full. I had to close the bank account i paid with because it required monthly min. funding which i couldn't afford. I sent Marshall Ward an email last week to enquire about cancelling the wii fit and the customer service team replied it would be fine to cancel as they would send me a cheque instead. I just called and explained the same story and the guy said thats fine, i was then transfered to a lady who said that the refund had been auotmatically credited back to the card i paid with and there's nothing they can do about it! what can i do now as i don't have the account with the bank anymore??

Ring the bank and explain it to them, they will have your money somewhere
Ask Marshall ward to write to you confirming what they have said over the phone so that you have something to take to the bank with you.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

If the account is cancelled and closed then they wouldn't be able to send the refund to a closed acount. Either way Marshall Ward can send you a cheque and you should just insisit that as the account is now closed that is what you require them to do.

Just stick to your guns, and dont be fobbed off by various excuses that they will try and pass off onto you.

When money gets returned to a bank account that is now closed it goes into the banks "suspense account" (this is an account where money gets given to them , but they have nowhere to return it to). You just need to get as much detail as poosible from Marshall Ward (amounts, dates, any transaction numbers etc) and the bank will then be able to return it.

Unfortunately demanding it by cheque from Marshall Ward will do nothing at this stage as the money is with your bank now.
  • A quick up-date, I went to my bank and they do not have a suspense account and said the money would just be bounced back to Marshall Ward. I called MW to tell them and the most unhelpful lady said that it could take ages for it to return and then even if it does go back to MW she said a cheque cannot be issued!! She said to keep calling their expensive number to check when the money comes back and to go from there.
