Hello everyone,
We had a Regular Boiler system for our heating and last night the hot water tank started to leak and caused damage to the ceiling. Now we had to shut the hot water tank to avoid any further damage. Could anyone advise what I should be doing next? What do I do for hot water and how can I get this fixed?
2) I am actually looking to buy a new Combi boiler to replace the Regular boiler and need advice some advice on this. Could you please please guide me?
Regards.

Think you should be calling a plumber? Even if you are thinking about getting a combi boiler This will take time to arrange,So you need to deal with te problem at the moment,Where is the tank leaking from?OH THE JOYS OF BEING SELF-EMPLOYED!! Can Travel,Will Work For Free!0

Thank you.
The tank is leaking from the bottom. Called emergency plumber last night, he came and turned the water going into the hot water tank. The water does not leak now.0 -
Did the plumber that came out last night not advise you of the next step for repair?? As all he has done is stop the water you can not put it back on yet! Is it leaking from the Plastisc/Metal square filler tank or the copper cylinder?OH THE JOYS OF BEING SELF-EMPLOYED!! Can Travel,Will Work For Free!0

The plumber just said I can only fix the leak. He said phone the insurance company and they will send a gas engineer. When I phoned the insurance company they said we only cover for things that were damaged by the leak. Water is leaking from the copper cylinder.0

I do not really understand you are not making much sense,Did the plumber fix it or not? If he hes just turned the water off then thats what you must have agreed to.
And now you need to fix the tank which chances are will result in you having to get a new one fitted.
Why do you need a gas engineer? If you explain more carefully you might get some help off here!OH THE JOYS OF BEING SELF-EMPLOYED!! Can Travel,Will Work For Free!0 -
I am very sorry for confusing. The plumber fixed the leak and said he cannot fix the tank. So do I now need to get a new Tank fitted to get my problem resolved?
I am really bad with diy terminology. Many thanks for helping me.0 -
So the plumber has fixed a leak on somthing that did not need fixing because it has not solved the problem as the tank is leaking,Or did he stop the water flow which you a calling fixing the leak?
You need to get the copper cylinder repaired/replaced at cost to yourself as the insurance company will only cover damage caused by the leak and will put the damaged/leaking tank down to wear/tear.OH THE JOYS OF BEING SELF-EMPLOYED!! Can Travel,Will Work For Free!0 -
The plumber only stopped the water flow into the cylinder. You were very very helpful. Not sure if I need to get the cylinder fixed or to get a new Combi Boiler. If I buy a new combi boiler I can get rid of the cylinder. Am I thinking in the right direction?
Thanks.0 -
Yes you are correct-A combi boiler will get rid of the broken tank,So if it was me i would instead of paying £500+ for a new tank installed put this money towards having a combi installed £1000+ The only problem being you will have no hot water for say 2 weeks-As you need to get the right Installer/Price and arrange fitting of said combi boiler. What you need to do first is to try and buy yourself some time so as to not make rash decisions-can you get a local plumber to take a look in the hope of "bodging" the tank for a while,As you sort out Combi-if this fails just live without hot water for a bit it cannot be too hard-I've Heard most of the customers with British Gas homecare Have too!!!OH THE JOYS OF BEING SELF-EMPLOYED!! Many many thanks for this useful information, you have been most patient and prompt. I will do a bit of research to check the prices for the combi boiler. Hope I can get this fixed within the next few weeks..."hopefully".0
