Cant mind what F button it is might be F4 on the boot screen but theres one that says safe graphics. Try that.
Right tried that still no good, Is there somewhere I can find out exactly where it stops? Like rather than showing a splash screen show like a command screen? This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
When its starting up press Alt + F1 and you should see whats happening behind scenes.
Did you try both of the things I suggested?0 -

using Ubuntu when you get to the Boot menu press f6 and removethe words "Quiet" and "Splash".
Basically:
"Quiet" tells it not to display the boot process (so when you remove it you should see text running up the screen)
"Splash" is the graphical loading screen, with that gone you should see exactly where it freezes..
Also try and run the "Check the CD for errors" and see what you get. might be a iffy Optical drive or media (if they were burned on the same make of disk.Laters

if the above don't work and if your laptop supports booting from USB. you can copy the LiveCD on a USB stick (any 1Gb stick will do!) their are a few programs around that will take the ISO and stick it onto a USB stick and make it bootable.
try this Install Ubuntu in USB Stick using WindowsLaters

It does look like an IRQ or PCI problem. You could try "irqfixup".You might want to try "biosirq". These are kernel options for unfriendly hardware.0

You may want to take a look at VirtualBox, a free version of VMWare. It can even reuse the VMware virtual disk image. Install VirtualBox, create a new virtual machine, then in the disk manager point to your VMware disk image.0
