Are Citi and MBNA Related?

It seems very strange that during applying for an Alliance and Leicester Premier Current account I also applied for their credit card which is run by MBNA.
I since got a letter from Virgin Mastercard (also run by MBNA) saying I've got the option of either letting the rates go up or keeping existing rates but having the card cancelled.
It didn't surprise me that it could be because I applied for another MBNA card.
But today I got a letter from Citi saying pretty much the same thing all in the space of 1 week. I'm not too bothered about the citi one because i've never used it and only have the 5.8% life of balance transferred on it.
Would you tell them to suspend the account to keep the better rate? What affect would it have?

Citi and MBNA are two different operations. FWIW, I doubt whether your application to A&L triggered the letter from Virgin either. It's just coincidence.
Since you've not used your Citi card for anything else to date, it might be an idea to hang on to the fixed rate, but it's your choice really.I'm not too bothered about the Citi one because I've never used it and only have the 5.8% life of balance transferred on it. Did you get accepted by A& L?People who don't know their rights, don't actually have those rights.0 -
I plan to hang onto the fixed rate, that's all I got it for, so I think I'll ring them and tell them this.
As for A&L, it looks like I've been accepted for the card as I've got the Pin number in the post.0 -

Congratulations

That'll be 0% on another balance transfer for 12 months then. Fingers crossed you get the credit limit you need.
Very best
