Touchpad on HP laptop not working

The up and down bit on the side of the touchpad does not work, someone said to configure it but I don't know how to do it. Does anyone know how I can get it working please?

  • I thought I had a problem with mine until I sussed out what I was doing wrong..
On a mouse if you were to use the scroll bar you would left click and drag it.
I was left clicking and scrolling using the pad but the left click gets priority so stopping the scroll function.

Check that you don't do the same.. (BTW I was a novice laptop user)
I would have used my own initiative if someone would have told me to!

Click on the Synaptics TouchPad icon in your system tray to configure.

Thanks, I think maybe I am wanting it to do something it is not supposed to do. I am used to srolling up and down with the wheel on the mouse. I was putting the pointer over the bar at the right of the screen, left click and then the up and down arrow! Sorry but Where is the system tray?

Bottom right hand of your screen by the clock display or look in Control Panel for Synaptics TouchPad.

No sorry - there is no Synaptics Touchpad in control panel . It seems to be working now so it must have been the left clicking that was the problem.. Thanks to both of you for helping.

You need drivers for your touchpad to be able to get more advanced features synaptics enable the advanced features, it generally starts when the computer boots up. Did you disable it?

Also in the control panel it the options will be under the Mouse section.
