Legal cover won't help you with a courtesy car. You have that added on as another part of your policy.

Legal cover will not usually cover small claims matters. If it does, the costs are normally limited to the sum of money you are trying to recover so no one would touch the case.

I am surprised you didn't advise of that before criticising me.

    You been on the sauce?

    Where did I criticise you??

Beside this, your advice in this post is unhelpful and innacurrate:

    1) Where did a courtesy car come into my post?

    2) In fact the insurance companies do "push" legal cover as a way of getting help recovering uninsured losses, and this often does involve the scc.

for much less than the cheapest single amount quoted above.

( unfortunately this particular product is not available direct , and to date I have not sold it via my agencies given the cost of administration and the extra burden of holding client funds, as no DD to insurer is available - although I am looking at ways around this )

I have a all in one legal policy

Could you helpfully tell us who that is with?
and does it cover a married couple/household?

I know you are an advisor and perhaps therefore felt you couldn't mention it, but now someone has asked, perhaps you can give the details.

Payless it sounds a great product. With a bit of marketing you could be on to a winner

It may not be popular with some Insurers and Brokers though, me thinks you know why.

Yeah, been looking at marketing it, but its very low margins , plus its on a Monthly Bordereau ( I assume you know more about this system than I do! so would need " holdiong client funds permission " at present only arranged it as a freebie for some existing clients

    ---
Silly thing is I just realised I should have used it in my current Small claims proceeding against B&Q .. hope i win now as otherwise I've missed out on the £60 fees ( and possibly more !)

If I had the product I would look at setting up a website and selling it that way as if it is the same price as one normal policy it would be attractive to the majority of the country. Once world of mouth got around you would get lots of business.

A website would not be that expensive, you could then advise people like martin and other consumer champions eg in the papers etc and they would probably mention the scheme if it would save people money.

Alternatively if you spoke with one of the big insurers or comparison sites you might just persuade one of them to offer it as it would give a big advantage over their competitors. The only problem with that route is they may want an exclusive contract or just cut you out of the loop and do their own.

If you find your margins are to low it is worth considering increasing the price as we found people take legal up more if the price is higher as the higher the price the more important people perceive it is. If you look at most of the direct companies they are charging between £20 and £25 for something they will be buying for around £1

The other option would be to speak to some of the Unions as this would be an ideal benefit for them to include as it would save their members money and ensure there are no gaps. A lot of them already include motor legal
