Should we act now?

OH was told yesterday the he's to be made redundant in 2 weeks.
I'm trying hard not to bury my head in the sand and ignore it all  though the temptation is strong.
Can anyone advise me please? Should we do something about benefits/tax credits/whatever else now? I really have no idea where to start with it all. OH is obviously looking through the jobs section (what there is of it) in the local newspapers but should he be contacting the job centre now?
I know some of this is probably glaringly obvious but it's such a difficult time for us. My father is very ill and only has days to live so our energy has been going into visiting him and waiting for the enevitable phone call. Trying to cope with redundancy on top is just so hard and I'm having trouble getting my head together.
Thanks in advance for any advice or comments.

Have a :grouphug:for what you are going through with your dad
If you OH has a final date of employment or working his notice period, it would be worth filling in the online forms for JSA and other benefits (and you can check for jobs)at

the forms are here

Your poor thing, please accept my condolences.
The 0800 number will not deal with you until after you have left work, and have to call "as soon as possible" after leaving work (I found this out last Friday when I called).
I'd concentrate on sorting your father's affairs out, and getting the funeral arranged. I'd see giving him a good send off as your top priority.
Your OH can explain any delay in contacting them.0 -
Really sorry to hear about your Dad.
Also sorry to hear about oh's job.0
