Claiming income protection insurance

My partner took out unemployment insurance nearly 2 months ago, the qualifying period ends in a couple of weeks. Unfortunately their company has just sent out an internal email saying there will be some redundancies over the coming months. There will be a consultation period so they probably won't hear anything further until past the date the qualifying period ends.
The wording of the insurance document states:
we will not pay monthly benefit for any period of employment:
* If your employment occurs during the qualification period or notification of unemployment was given to you within the qualification period.
As far as I can see tell my partner hasn't been notified they will be unemployed, rather that there will be redundancies in the company.
Even if this does technically invalidate the insurance I wonder how the insurance company would ever be able to find this information out (unless my partner disclosed this) as the email was internal and there has been no press statement made or anything on the company website?
Any thoughts??
