Problem with SimplySwitch - how efficient are the comparison sites?

There are lots of forum threads about the utility companies themselves, but few about how effective the comparison sites are at switching - apart from USwitch's reliability over champagne deliveries!
Has anyone else had problems with SimplySwitch? After doing the price-comparison last November I requested, through their site, a switch of gas supplier from Scottish (British) Gas to the Scottish & Southern group. I got a rapid email saying the new supplier would be in touch within 28 to 45 days to confirm the agreed date for the switch and provide other information.
I heard nothing more.... for almost three months. Sent an email enquiry to SimplySwitch customer services in mid-Feb. No response. So I phoned them. Helpful chap promised to look into it, called me back, and said that they had a record of our request. He believed it had been forwarded for "processing " but said that Scottish & Southern claimed that they had not received anything. I urged SimplySwitch to check (had they failed to forward the request, or had SSE lost track of it?). Since then, silence.
I'm not impressed. Three months, no action... no switch... no saving... no cashback or voucher. And having chased SimplySwitch and given them an opportunity to sort things out, I'm not inclined to waste more time continuing to do so. Is there any point in raising this with the Energy Ombudsman - does (s)he oversee the comparison sites? If not, who does?

SimplySwitch has a starred link in Martin's article on the main site (don't know why it's not listed in the bar above....) and reportedly offers Amazon vouchers.
So I assume that MSE has an interest in ensuring that the switch sites with which there is a link arrangement actually deliver the service they offer...0
