Jem , I think you will find that despite Dh saying that there were plenty of reasons against using the Sterling bond, only when pressed did he the say "there is nothing that suggests that there is anything wrong with the recommendation"

So why didnt Dh just say that in the first place? What he posted originally was of no help to the OP or people like you trying to make and informed decision.

Perhaps not. However he does seem to prefer having more facts before just diving in with an answer, unlike some.

Philup later posted the actual commission level which was fine - had it been high the answers may have been entirely different.

Why has disagreeing with Dh got to be seen as IFA bashing?

    Disagreeing - no that's a healthy discussion.

However do you really feel that some of your comments to me regarding the use of a signature were just disagreements? That's what I was referring to.
As someone who likes to make informed decisions, I would have thought it would be more useful to you and everyone on this forum if occassionally someone gave a different opinion to dunstonh.

    Absolutely.

That's why I see the signature as useful. It allows us to see other professional opinions.

Dont agree, he very often dives in, like this case where he did have all the relevant facts but still posted plenty of reasons why not.

No, there would still have been nothing wrong with the advice and product recommendation.

    Yep

    fair enough

    Absolutely.

on this forum my opinions ( as you will have gathered) are not given in a professional capacity therefore I prefer not to advertise. I would never transact any business with anyone on these boards. Would it surprise you that I do get pm's from posters when they suss im an IFA? Makes me wonder how many pms the ones with IFA in their signature get. If you think im a cynical old git then your probably spot on.

At the end of the day Dh and I both work in the same industry and where I agree with him I will back him, but I also know in some areas we are poles apart. Im not going to sit on the fence with DH.

Just as well - some of your recent comments (not just on this thread) would have people running in the opposite direction.

    What's got into you recently?

Not at all. People can get an idea about someone from their posts - although it could be entirely the wrong idea.

You say that you don't act on pms as you don't transact business with anyone on these boards. Why assume ( or accuse as you really seem to be doing) someone else does then?

    That's fine.

However don't let it descend into what comes over as IFA bashing to those who don't know who/what you are. It does no-one any favours.

Like I said, I dont see disagreeing with Dh as IFA bashing. I got annoyed with him for bashing another IFA

Questioning someones motives isnt IFA bashing either

    Just seemed unecessarily harsh comments.

Depends on your motives for doing it.

I refer to Post 3 and 9 (quote from deleted comment) in that thread.

    Ask the OP.

    I'm a cynical old *** too. ;)

Anyway whiteflag if you want the last word please have it but I'm finished here. My main point is that you seem to have become unecessarily argumentative where no real argument appears to exist. You obviously think otherwise so we'll have to agree to disagree.
