Title says it all really. I need a washing machine (and a dryer either built in or seperate) and have no idea what's appropriate. It's just me so it/they doesn't/don't need to be a workhorse/s!
It goes without saying that I want something relatively cheap - but I don't want to have to replace it anytime soon!
What are considered good, reliable makes?

I have a hotpoint and it's done over seven years' good service.
Do you really need a dryer though? I hardly use mine and only have it cos my brother gave me the machine. I think it costs quite a bit more to have a dryer, and it costs a lot to run one too. You really don;t need one - I dry all my stuff on airers inside or on the rads if I need it quick!
You can get a dryer for £170 from Argos, but the cheapest washer dryer is £280. That's a big difference.:cool: DFW Nerd Club member 023...DFD 9.2.2007 :cool::heartpuls married 21 6 08 :A Angel babies' birth dates 3.10.08 * 4.3.11 * 11.11.11 * 17.3.12 * 2.7.12 :heart2: My live baby's birth date 22 7 09 :heart2: I'm due another baby at the end of July 2014! :j

I have been through a fair few washing machine and dryers and also a twin tub. I would recommend to any-one to have a separate washer and dryer, as the people i know who have had them have had lots of problems. some shops do a washing machine and tumble dryer package that usually works out cheaper.Comet do a package for 269 pounds.

Bosch are a good reliable make. Not cheap but reasonable for the quality. Comet do them, but there are also good prices on-line and at John Lewis. I would get a tumble drier too if you have space and can afford it, a separate one. Drying stuff on radiators will lead to condensation on windows and other undesirable areas and is really not a good idea.0

I'd recommend a seperate dryer, whatever it is. From experience I'd say a combined washer/dryer's a total waste of money. They might wash ok ... but they don't dry things very well, imho.

I agree. If you look at a drum on a tumble dryer it is a lot bigger than a washing machine drum. This allows the clothes to dry much quickerS!!!!horpe0

Cheers for the advice, people! Definately know now that a combi is out of the question.
I might just go for a washer now and get a dryer later on. My bath has one of those extending clothes-line-type things over it and the bathroom has an extractor fan - so maybe worth trying that out for a while!0
