Convert Fridge Housing/ Cupboard to Dishwasher Housing??

Options
What is the difference between housing and door used for an integrated dishwasher and that meant for an integrated undercounter fridge or a normal kitchen cupboard??

Once I can find appliances at the right price I would like to replace my present integrated undercounter fridge and small base unit next to it with a free standing side-by-side undercounter fridge-freezer, and possibly replace another standard kitchen cupboard with an integrated dishwasher. Don't really want to buy a dedicated dishwasher housing unit when I will have two spare base units complete with doors ... obviously the handles will be in the wrong place, but are there any other major differences? :o

I dont think you get dedicated dishwasher housing units. It's usually just a door that fixes to the front of the dishwasher. Same goes for any integrated appliance (except ovens).

Integrated appliances stand on their own adjustable feet and just slot into the space you have for them, no unit is needed. They are usually fixed to adjacent units and/or the worktop by small brackets. A kitchen unit door is just fixed over the appliance door.

All you would have to do is remove the cupboard and site the dishwasher there instead.

Thanks! Now I am confused tho, as I priced up housing for an integrated full height fridge freezer and I needed a whole cupboard. Also my oven has it's own housing. I am going to have to go and have a look at my set-up!! :o

Do you mean I just use a standard door off a kitchen cupboard for a dishwasher? Do I just leave the normal plinth in place?

In your first post you talk about undercounter integrated appliances....then in your second, you mention an integrated full height fridge freezer...so which is it? :D

Full height integrated appliances do have housings...undercounter ones dont.

I did say 'except ovens' in my 1st post btw. ;)

If you want a 'fully integrated' dishwasher then yes, it's usually a standard 600mm cupboard door that is used. A 'semi integrated' dishwasher will have a slightly shorter door as the dishwasher control panel will be on show along the top.

The plinth can probably stay in place but it might need a little amount shaved off where the dishwasher door opens. Mine didn't, but it did mention in the fitting instructions that it may need doing.

Why not have a look in any good kitchen unit shop or I can send you photos of my integrated dish washer, fridge and freezer if you want?

My BOSCH dish washer replaces a standard 600mm base unit and the door fits onto the appliance.

WARNING Integrated appliances are more expensive and have less space than an equivalent free standing fridge freezer.

My little integrated fridge is just too small for two of us, so we have a separate freezer which is fairly old and looks ugly in our living area. Originally I looked at installing a full height integrated fridge/freezer and sacrificing some worktop, but it was going to be too expensive to buy the appliance and a new unit and have it all fitted.

Then I found a Zanussi side-by-side undercounter fridge/freezer which is the same width as my fridge plus it's neighbouring half-sized cupboard. The little cupboard is hardly used, I wouldn't lose worktop space, and I wouldn't need to buy an additional cupboard .... quite MSE really! :p

I also fancy a dishwasher which would have to go next to the sink as it needs a water supply, so would have to replace the cupboard next to the fridge. But I don't want two freestanding appliances next to each other as I think it will start looking 'bitty'.
