Baby Respirtory Monitors

  • Hi there

Thanks for your replies. I have spoken to my health visitor and she advised me that since my new baby tested clear for the illness my son had there is no medical reason to require a monitor which is why I have had to look into buying one (aparently my sanity is not a medical reason!)

    Thanks

Not being funny, but how much are these things?

If they are not too much, how about getting 2 and then you're not worried about the battery issue as you can use the spare in the meantime.

i take it you would be using this all day as opposed to just when baby is sleeping? we have the angel care monitor that has the movement sensor pad in the cot, but maybe you need/want more than that.

Check with your midwife though: she may have more influence with those who are dishing them out!

hi i can totally sympathize with you and for your sanity unfortunately unless some one has had a baby death it very hard for them to understand. i lost my daughter yrs ago and really thought i dealt with it ,until my two grandsons were born within three weeks of one another , then i really found looking after them totally stressful so i bought two of those monitors and in my opinion WELL worth every penny ,what price for you peace of mind it wont stop you worrying but it will help ,

    Thanks.

Sorry. But if it was me, at that price, I'd just get two. If it's what you need for peace of mind then just do it. If you subsequently find out that you don't need the second one, you can always try returning it unopened or sell it on Ebay.

Anxiety is a terrible thing and can be all encompassing. We all deal with these things in different ways.

  • We have one of these that we still use at night with our (nearly) 7 month old.

    We went for this one:

    http://www.respisense.com/en/index.php

I'm sure that the instructions said that the battery would last for a year based on average use.

No regrets buying it whatsoever, and I certainly don't feel that it's OTT. Seems a small price to pay for peace of mind.
  • These things are useful, However I would urge you to see medical advice, just to chat about them, and see if the hosp could loan u one - also if you do decide to get one consider the way in which it works, as In will it just stimulate the baby, and not let you know its done it, or will at alarm as well, or just alarm and no stimulation? Its just so you know that if it happens, was it the real deal, or was it just the baby was shallow breathing, and monitor did not pick this up, or sensor needs changing, etc, hope you find what ur looking for xxx
  • The health visitor is working with the local hospital (not the specialist hospital my son was in) and although there was a monitor available had my son have come home, it was because he had a proven medical need but as this is more for me than the baby, they are not able to help as there are children in the community that have a medical need for this equipment, which I completely understand.

I have now contacted the supplier to ask about battery length should the monitor be used all day and also about the length of time for a battery change over.

I am hoping that this is something that I wont ever really need but think I will be neurotic enough as it is that if there is any way I can try and buy a bit of peace of mind it will be worth the money.

I do have a mattress movement monitor but wanted something that was a bit more mobile as I have a feeling for the first few months at least this baby will be attached to me or at the very least in the same room as me.

I know some of you may think this is probably me being over cautious (and from an outsider's point of view I can see that!) but unfortunately I have a feeling this is how it is going to be for a while and nothing will make me relax apart from the passing of time so going to get all the help I can in the meantime so I can enjoy my baby so will take control of the things I can. I have had training in infant resusciation and CPR but hope to god I never need it.
