We have an R-reg ford galaxy, that i use for work, I am a nanny (also take my own dd to work with me)- although may consider giving up work or going part time (would still need car though!) - are we likely to be able to keep it? Just I have to take their little boy to adn from school and the family pay for the little girl to go to music lessons etc that i have to drive to? would they need the family to write and tell them i need the car (sort of wante to keep them out of it as much as possible!!) what if kept it as had a job and then left my job could i still keep it while looking for part time work etc?
thanks again

There is a 2 stage decision process with cars. Apparently.
Mercman posted this in a previous post.
http://www.debtquestions.co.uk/debt_forum/viewtopic.php?t=14954
Further down I posted a summary from the info - quoted below for your convenienceJust read through the stuff on MercMan's link.
The decision process seems to have two stages.
1. Does the BR need a car to carry out their business/occupation? This includes full time unpaid caring.
2. If the BR does need a car, can a reasonable amount be realised from selling it and providing funds for a cheaper car?
If the answer to No.1 is no, they will take the car whatever the value (or offer to sell the BI back to the BR).
If the answer to No2 is yes then it has "excess value" and a maximum figure of £2,000 is advised for the calculations/payment.
It only applies in the case of a car being claimed for excess value, but there is a 42 day notice period.
That's my understanding anyway.
Cheers for the link MercMan:T
Hope it helps.BSC No 248

No it does not....cars have been taken worth 3-400 pounds in the past.....BUT as your working its a start..get as much info to back up WHY you need to keep the vehicle...cars are a very dodgy subject!
