Update on the BookBarn situation - thanks to Sabine for posting on Freecycle 2/3/09
Hello,
Just to let other people know that the bookbarn in Bristol is still open, I went along today to pick up some free books (piles on the floor and a few remaining on the shelves).
It was open from 10.00am until 2.00pm and was told it would be open tomorrow-tuesday 3rd of march for the same times, I am not sure about the following days.
So if you can, go and save some old books and have fun!
Happy freecycling!

Worth anyone in Bristol to grab lots of books and donate them to school, libraries and even the local hospital so that patients can have something to read. I know there are a lot of elderly patients that don't get many visitors and would love to read a book to pass the time between pokes and prods. I'm not in Bristol or I would have done itSurvey earnings total 2009 £417, 2010 £875, 2011 £5740

had a look today but there was a sign up saying due to health and safety they are no longer open to the public they had complaints about people climbing over bookcases to get to the books apparantly. The average woman would rather have beauty than brains,
because the average man can see better than he can think.
Many people's view of the world is down to their experience, perception and what they have been conditioned to,this isnt any old MSE reply this is a important and experienced MSE reply :rotfl:0 -

shame local charities where not offered first pickings.

Does anyone know if the book barn is still open? I've seen lots of contradicting information and can't get there until tomorrow morning0

Unfortunately it's now closed, according to a post on Bristol Freecycle:
I have just come from the Bookbarn and it is now closed to the public
due to health and safety. Probably a good thing as yesterday when I
was there I saw several people taking crazy risks and one child almost
crushed under a mountain of books!0 -
"This Bookbarn is in no way connected to the company BookBarn International at Hallatrow in North Somerset."
Are you sure?
Even just a brief investigation will show many links between the 2 'seperate' companies, and searches for company directorships will also show directors in common. Searching other websites will show that the web address of bookbarns (hallotrow) often has the the physical address listed at the Paintworks site. So, there is some mystery behind why they state no connection - possibly so they don;t get the bill for clearing the warehouse of mostly worthless stock.
Think the health & safety bit kicked in when they realised the building would not have been insured for the public after a few near misses.Do You Twitter?
