Can you recommend a dishwasher?

Never has a dishwasher before so really don't have a clue. However, it must be a slim dishwasher.

Any suggestion would be great :)

  • You didn't say how much you want to spend on a dishwasher, but my own is a Siemens, bought second hand for £30 about seven years ago. Was nice and clean, no marks etc. I did intend to get a brand new one at the time but my sis suggested buying second hand and am so glad i did cos it has worked perfectly from then to now.

When looking, take a dinner plate. Some have the shelves too close together to fit a large one in. We have a Hotpoint Ultima and the top shelf can be adjusted. The only problem we have had with this dishwasher is if you put something big like a pan under the soap tray, the soap doesn't get washed out. This is probably true of all dishwashers, but I don't know.

Another vote for Siemens - we have a SF24T558GB. Not at all moneysaving, we were treating ourselves :o but it does a great job and looks really good. Siemens have a good reputation for reliability too (ours came with a 5 year guarantee included when we bought it from John Lewis, but that was earlier in the month - not sure if the offer is still on).

One thing to bear in mind is that by going for a slimline, you're cutting down the selection and you'll be paying as much as you would for a full-size one.The slimline is okay for us, it easily fits in a day (sometimes two) of washing-up, but there's just the two of us.

After we got it we did wonder whether we should have gone for full size, which we could have done by removing one of our cupboard handles. Is there any way at all you could fit a full-size one in?

    Bosch - without a doubt !
  • Alexei is right the slim line (450) dishwashers are that same price as the normal (600) ones however it could cost £300 or more if you require someone to alter your units for you this could potentially turn into a big job depending on your kitchen layout.

As for the dishwasher £260 would buy you a candy, these are entry level but I have installed a few and not had any problems about the best on the market at the mo are Bosch but I think you could be looking at about £350 - £400

My experience is that the same Appliances are manufactured in one place and distributed under up to 5 or 6 different badges and prices (e.g. newworld, stoves ect are the same company) so just work budget dependant, and if it has a five year guarantee included in the price (not extra) that’s a good one to go with.
