Cash Bags

Hi all,

Ive been collecting coins for a while in odd pots and jars and have amounted quite a few. I recently bagged them up into the clear bank bags. Do I have to cash these in at a bank where i have an account? Im with A&L but my nearest branch is quite a way (i use online banking - pay cheques in the post office) Can I pay these bags in at the post office too? I have around £100 in £1 and 20p.

Thanks for the advice

If you don't go to your own bank they may refuse. Not sure what happens if you try at PO.
  • Use Coinstar machine if you want, usally found at supermarkets like Sainsburys, but does take a small fee!
  • I think the "small" fee is 7% of the value of the coins.
...............................I have put my clock back....... Kcolc ym
  • In the UK, the fee for our coin counting service is 7.9 pence per pound counted. In Ireland the fee is 9.4 cents per Euro.

Would go to the post office, not sure if they'd take all the bags at once though. Personally wouldn't pay a machine £7 odd to count £100's worth of coins.
  • Donate them to charity and claim back the tax also
  • The money is already counted and bagged up, so dont really need the service of coinstar.. might just open an account with Natwest as there is a branch 2 mins walk away. Cheers for the info guys
