I think that's a brilliant way to donate to charity!
Though personally I couldn't afford that.
I used to help out at lots of charity events and auctions, it's not about what's being sold it's mostly about making a donation, and if you happen to take home something you like at the end of it then even better! (plus it's tax deductable...)

I once convinced someone at an auction to bid on a signed framed photo and boxing gloves because "I really LOVE it! and I LOVE boxing" which wasn't true... but hey, it raised £500 and I have a fabby reminder of my days as a ringcard girl.. even if it is sitting in a bag at the back of my wardrobe....
