Delays... .

If I book a single train ticket for a specific train (to take advantage of cheap prices) for Glasgow to Crewe for example, and then another from Crewe to Nottingham, what happens if the first train is delayed? So, for example my train is expected to arrive at Crewe at 15.00 and my next train is due to leave at 15.10. If I've bought two singles and my first train is delayed will I be allowed to use my 15.10 ticket on another train, or will I just have to buy a new one? Hope I've explained properly!

No you can't, and they don't make the trains wait either.

I had that problem myself a few times, but I had to keep on doing it as I couldn't afford the fare without prebooking!

my dausghter and I went to London for a day using pre-booked seats and missed our train back because of a delay on the underground. we had to pay nearly £45 in extra fares to get home and everyone denied liability so our cheap day out ended up really expensive.

    Why, why, why?!

Oh, trains in Britain annoy me so much. I tried to buy a cheap day single ticket today for travel tomorrow and the woman refused to sell it to me!

You can always try it - just give the tickets over and hope for the best - you might have a sympathetic conductor/ticket collector - though you are best leaving more time in between trains to be on the safe side

Thanks. I'm hoping that my trains will be on time. The problem is when you can't afford to pay £50 for a standard open ticket and need to be somewhere at a certain time. Actually the problem is when the trains are so expensive and don't run to time!
