Turn your water off!!/Cold Water Tank Lid - where can I get one?

Hi guys
Came back from 3 weeks in Oz today & thanked my lucky stars I turned the water off!
When I turned it on the overflow was chuckin it out - I dread to think what 3 weeks worth would have cost (I'm on a meter)!
The chaps who insulated everything just taped the foam (in black polythene) over the tank. This had sagged and landed on the ballcock, causing the valve to be held open.
What I'm after is any advice as to how to fashion an appropriate (robust) lid. There is a pipe which comes over and into the tank so I would need a hole/slit/slot to accommodate this. One side of the tank is also fast against the joist so it make take some manoevering to get in place.
Can I buy (and if so where from) any suitable lids, or am I better getting a sheet of something (don't know what) and cutting it to size?
Any advice would be much appreciated.
Thanks

50mm polystyrene sheet will do the job if not carrying weight and will also insulate but a proper plastic lid from a Plumbers Supplies would be better and should not cost more than a fiver !

Yes you can buy lids for plastic tanks, any plunmbers merchant in fact bye-laws demand it ,but you could cut a piece of ply to fit keep it simpleTo be happy you need to make someone happy.0

Do the lids come with a slot/hole in them?
The reason I ask is because the vent(?) pipe that goes over the top and into the tank finishes lower than the brim of the tank.
If the lid is entirely solid it means I wouldn't be able to fit it to the tank because it would hit the down pipe when I tried to put it on the tank.
Any advice would be most appreciated.

The lid is solid, you will have to drill/cut a hole in it.0 -
