Hi everyone, I'm after some advice on the best card to apply for. I'm currently a single parent receiving some CSA payments, CTC, HB etc. I'm not working at the moment as I'm waiting for a transfer to a nearer office after splitting up with my husband. I have no debt but want to apply for a credit card for buyng items over £100 for the extra security and also to have in reserve in case of emergency.

I won't be using it all the time unless I go for a cashback card then I'll be paying the balance off in full each month. I've read all the articles on here and was going to go for either the Abbey card that offers cashback on supermarket and fuel purchases or barclaycard simplicity at 6.8%APR.

I'm most worried about being rejected as I have quite a good credit rating but obviously no income from earnings. Is there a card that generally accepts people in my circumstances even if the credit limit is relatively low?

Sorry it's so long :o

    Hi

To be honest it may be worth retrospectively making an application, i.e. use the current details before your split as this will almost certainly guarantee you get it. The lender doesn't need to know the full facts.

I am not telling you how to defraud, not at all, I am simply advising a way around the system. In all likeliness you'd be declined for the lack of income but then again if you're credit worthy then you should be given a chance, all the same.

Personally, if you say you have good credit i'd be looking to apply with a card via my main bank if they use behaviour scores (Hbos/Lloyds/HSBC/Barclays) otherwise consider a good one for your needs, i.e. Virgin/MBNA but click the link at the top of the page called credit cards for best details......

If you wanted to try like today, then you'll find one of the easiest mainstream cards that would instantly say yes/no is asda/tesco the likes......

    Hope that helps - Mil

Well I decided to just declare my situation as it is now and if I didn't get the card to just move on as I don't need it as such. Anyway, I was accepted by Barclaycard for their simplicity card at 6.8% APR and a credit limit of £3130. I'm actually really surprised I got it at this rate and even more surprised at the limit they gave my considering my circumstances and the current climate.

    Anyway, thanks for your help!
