Investors Moving In?

    Hi,

I've been studying the market in the Didcot area for quite a while now.
Prices have gradually come down over the months and occasionally the more realistically priced houses will sell.

However, in the last week or so there have been an abnornal amount of sales for the current market.

My guess is that investors are starting to move back in to the market.

Any thoughts on this regarding the Didcot (Oxfordshire) area or indeed your own areas.

A poster (don't remember who) posted a thread that went something like this. If you go to rightmove you will find alot of properties with sold on them. In order to find these properties you have to tick the box asking for properties which are SSTC.

I did this and found in most areas this was indeed true.

This is also interesting posted on HPC

A friends house sale fell through a couple of weeks ago, he has had three viewings this week and two offers (not far under asking price 10%) he turned these down and waiting for them to come back.

Property slump? House prices in London just keep going up

"London's property market has got off to a surprisingly upbeat start to the year with buyers returning in numbers after the turmoil of last autumn.
Estate agents said today last month's interest rate cut and City bonuses being down only around 10 per cent on the previous year's record has breathed new life into a market that was in danger of falling into a slump.
If the Bank of England decides tomorrow to lower the cost of borrowing further - as expected by many City economists - it will help the revival.
Peter Rollings of Marsh & Parsons said: "The last quarter of last year was very poor, characterised by a severe lack of new buyers and existing buyers sitting on the fence waiting to see what was going to happen with the market. There was limited volume and prices were down by two or three per cent.
"But this year has started surprisingly well with plenty of new buyers coming into the market and plenty of offers being made, although very few actually agreed."

So... still very few house sales then?

Cheers for the article, I'm just trying to read between the lines.

It would be foolish to buy any property now even if it was very very cheap, it will only get cheaper.

Its like the bloke jumping off a tall building and half way down he says well its all right so far.

You are right Steve thats why its great to have ones like you saying its not so bad the media just makes it sound worse than it really is, things will be back to normal in no time right Steve? Also its good to have ones like Mitchaa on here insisting that his house is imune and will keep going up in value ;)

What are you doing to prepare for the worst if it comes?

    - I take prescription medication, and I have started to take a few pills off of each presciption and then store them. I will do this until I get 2 months worth and then start rotating them. I would recommend this since they now do a prepay card where you can get a years worth of medication and pay a fixed amount. If you get this card you can put in for presciptions earlier and get more for the same amount of £££.
    - I have a pack/plan ready with everything in to enable me to leave within 5-10 minutes if needs be. I live in a "vibrant community" and don't like my chances if it starts to kick off.
    - Have a fair amount of cash in hand
    - Have packs of cigerettes to barter with incase the cash runs out or is no good anymore

I do not have g... since I doubt it would be any use to barter with, and don't have enough savings yet to justify hedging with it.

I'm now convinced totally that this country is in freefall, with no way of stopping it. The government don't have a clue. What happened in Iceland will happen here, and might be even worse.

The National debt is at times an ally,
Leaving the people to fend for themselves,
    The people collect undeniable data,
About high pulse weapons and microwaves,
The National debt is at times an ally,
Leaving the people to fend for themselves,
Then, the people found out the lie.

So you're going to leave within 5 minutes of what happening exactly? And with a store of fags to barter with? Where are you running off to, a prison?

Iceland have obviously had enormous issues and it'd be stupid of me to claim anything else. However, my friend was there last week and we chatting about the fact that people there are getting on with their lives, eating out, having a drink in bars, going to work, watching sport, reading newspapers, playing with their kids and basically getting on with stuff. Many discussed the economy with him and said how they are having to adapt their lives. But there was very little social disruption on the whole. People did that rather resilliant things that humans do: they shrugged, decided a plan of action and got on with rebuilding their lives and their country.

I guess 10% of people anywhere can't cope and flee with 4000 Marboro Lights and their sandwich board.

Blimey. And I sometimes think this forum reaches the depths of nilihist, hating, rage-fueled cotempt for absolutely everything.

The strange thing is that every thing they say is completely correct. They just can't really communite that in a way that doesn't present them as people devoid of emotion, pathos or any type of decent human emotion.
