Eon ...So annoyed!

I really feel i have been robbed, has anyone any advice!

Eon Salesman come last Oct, looked at our previous southern electric bills... went through our usage... and PROMISED it would be no more than £97 monthly on average. I didn't believe this so the salesman called his manager and he came to our house and confirmed this 5 times as I was in doubt over his figures. He promised Eon was much cheaper than southern electric and guaranteed this £97 figure was correct and even set the d.debit up.

I signed up for the premium serive boiler check and he arrived yesterday ....5 months late...promised he would come within 28 days ( we know our boiler was not efficient and the service man yesterday said it they wouldn't sevice it as it was too knackered....If we had known this 4 months ago when salesman promised he would come we would have looked into getting a new energy saving boiler!!) , plus promised a electric energy saver meter which we have not received.

I phoned and emailed eon several times to check our bill as still was suspicious that the £97 was too low) and they said I can only find out when the bill comes after 3 months) . The total bill for the period 7th Nov 08 to 17th feb09 (apx 13 weeks) is £872 (£67 a week) far cry from £97 a month.

I phoned Southern Electric up this morning to get an idea of last years bill for Gas...Fron 8th Sept 08=2 0to 2nd Feb 09 (21 weeks) which was £607. which equals £28 a week apx £40 a week cheaper than Eon.

Although I appreciate prices have gone up this is a huge difference. What is much more important I feel I have been totally ripped off by Eon. I have been blatantly robbed by the salesman who misquoted me

Any help or advice would be much appreciated!

Thank you all for the replies.
The estimate I was given was for the next twelve months. As I said I realise prices have gone up. I rang Eon to check my bill before my first one arrived and they said this was not possible, I sent in meter readings every month explaining my worry over getting a huge bill.
I am more annoyed about the blatant lies the salesman told me as I expressed in my thread.

Although some replies have been kind I will think twice about posting on here again as I feel worse for some of the comments given...as though I am stupid and have no brain. I have noticed this a lot on Martins forums, why can't ppl just be kind and offer support instread of leaving cutting remarks?
Big thank you for the advice to those which did.

  • No I didnt have to 'Swallow the sales patter' But as I asked to speak to his manager, contacted Eon several times to check my bill, I believe I did my best in an untrustworthy world. Also I did a comparison check and Eon was rated as good. I am more annoyed that the salesman lied to me and wish to do something about that.
I came on here looking for support and advice and your comment makes me feel stupid. I researched Eon, spoke to the guys manager and emailed Eon to check my bill 3 times before my first bill arrived, I am not quite sure what more I could have done. At the end of the day I am left with a bill £600. more than I was quote by Eon.

    Hi

Your original quote would have been based on certain past usage figures. Need to compare these with the figures your first bill is based on.

Are the readings used on your first bill estimates?

As this has been one of the worst winters in recent years it may be your usage has gone up. Particularly if you have an inefficient boiler.

Also need to make sure you are on the tariff best suited to your needs.

If you were misquoted we have procedures in place to follow this up with the sales people involved.

I do know we ran out of energy monitors recently due to their popularity. More have been ordered and my colleagues are working through the backlog to send them out.

There are a number of points here which could do with more investigation. I would be more than happy to look into this further for you. I can also chase up your monitor.

Drop me a Private Message with your address and Post Code if you would like me to do this.

But is the tariff really more expensive? Since the salesman talking to you Sep/Oct he would have been discussing last year's usage. Most people are using three or four times (at least) the amount of heating that they used last winter. How much would it have cost if you had used the same amount of energy as last winter?

In my region AVERAGED over one year (the promise the salesman made) E-on is £4 a month cheaper than Southern for an average consumption.

Are you readings estimated or actual? Do you have a metric meter and a metric bill/ imperial meter and imperial bill? What were your usage patterns like last year compared with this year? Are you on the correct tariff?

So your winter monthly spend is only 2.68 times the averaged monthly payment. That is pretty standard and unremarkable. Confused by your annoyance.

    (365/102) x 872 / 12 / 97 = 2.68

I don't think you've been robbed, poorbird. You have just learned that the most important thing about a new tariff is not, how much the direct debit will be, but how much you will pay per kwh. The only way you can calculate your bill is to read your meters - I know that I can use 35000kwh gas and 5000kwh electricity a year (Iknow, we're high users) and my DD will stay the same. Because I can't afford for it to go up, I monitor how much we're using and try to cut back so that we're using less than last year.

Have you tried calculating your annual use in kwh and putting the figures into a comparison site? Your tariff might not be as bad as it seems.
