'Unfair' Bank charges...Snowballs chance?

I am considering cutting my losses with reclaiming from the Halifax , In light of the 'credit crisis' should we / will we have a chance to reclaim any monies owed to us from the charges before the banks start to cry ' we can't pay we're hard up as well".
If I claim hardship will this be enough to claim at least half of the monies owed to me?
Who thinks we're actually going to get an answer this time?
From what I see ( suspicious sort that I am) the banks are either going to try and stall again in the hopes that peoples attentions are going to be focused on the 'credit crisis' or that they are going to cry hardship and can't afford to pay them back at all.
If I phone them and claim 'hardship' will I be able to get at least the overdrafts I have with them paid and the accounts closed? They owe about £1000 before interest but my overdrafts are about £500 total.
Should I try them ?
