Same for me - several calls a day - asked them to stop - still calling. Have advised that I was going to report them to the FSA and Ofcom - still calling. Like the other member, I asked them for their address, tel no, etc - all they could give me or were authorised to give me was the town - Leicester. Looked at companies house website and did a search for Debt Advice Bureau - nothing in Leicester. Can somebody go through with the call and get all the details? Any advice to stop these calls?

They rang me again about two weeks ago. I asked them for a number I could ring them back on to discuss it at a more convenient time, was told they couldn't provide one as he was overseas (that's the first time they've admitted that). So I asked for an address to write to, again told they couldn't provide me with one, but if I'd like to answer some questions, he'd be able to put me through to an advisor in Leicester. I confirmed my name and address details (don't know where they got them from because I certainly didn't give them out). He still wouldn't put me through because I had no debts. I asked him AGAIN to make sure I was taken off their calling list.

And I've now reported them to the Information Commissioners Office ico dot gov dot uk (I'm not allowed to do links) with screen shots of the form I filled in for the the Debt Advice Bureau (link below), exact dates and times, who I spoke to and EXACTLY what was said during the telephone conversion. I've got a reference number (the TPS were as helpful as a chocolate Teapot!) and all calls will now be reported directly to them every time I receive one.

To the person who asked for the website, this is the one I filled in directly to the Debt Advice Bureau, I wouldn't bother if I were you, as I'm still receiving phone calls from them. debtadvicebureau dot org dot uk . It may well be that they are not connected to the nuisance callers, but they haven't acknowledged my complaint and denied it's them. It says on their website that the TPS have confirmed it's not them making the calls and are writing to people to let them know. The information I've received from the TPS is an email advising me to contact the ICO. They have not written to me to tell me it's not the link above!!

The next time you get one of these calls, make a note of the date and time, the number calling you (even if it's Out of Area or International), the name of the person calling you and write down EXACTLY what they say. Then email the ICO (link above).

You can post links to organisations like the ICO, Mavis - it's only links for 'personal gain' that are not allowed.

The Link to the ICO, for complaints, is as follows:

    http://www.ico.gov.uk/complaints.aspx

We (to be more exact - my wife) have just received yet another of these 'calls'.

Unfortunately, the caller (whose accent was certainly not 'British' in origin) would not give either his, or the company's, name. When we tried to '1471' we got the 'we do not have the caller's number' message.

I have heard of a person who got these sort of calls to stop by having a whistle by the phone and blowing it loudly whenever he got these calls, but obviously I wouldn't advise this as you might hurt someones ears ;).

 check out companies house website put company number in above they used to be called self select finance limited among other things.

Mr Stephen Rose is director for 12 affiliated company's some dissolved, including Freepay limited (a Bank?) clientsmart ltd, out of the red limited, reposearch, two of his sites are linked as financial news/info sites from debt advice bureau website- his registered address is as above and clientsmart ltd brings up a telephone number on a google search He is the registered owner at the same address above of the linked news website inspecie and or reporadar all roads lead to the same destination and/or name.

Looks like a job for watchdog and/or the FSA/Fraud squad!

Incidentally the chap cut me off when I asked him to find out what list his company had purchased my name and number from.

Within two mins of his disconnection, I got one of those lovely pre-recorded Americanised messages aimed at visa or mastercard owners offering to lower my rates...I replaced handset in 3 seconds again number withheld so would guess it was payback for tearing the original caller off a strip.

They phoned the wrong gal here![/QUOTE]

"hold on hold on, i am actually interested in what you're saying, can you just give me a second to turn the oven off/stop running the bath and i'll be back?"

Then just leave the phone sitting for a few minutes. They'll probably hang up after a minute but sure you can always make a game out of keeping them on hold - "your call is very important to me!" - without hearing a word out of them!

  • Hehe, that's what my OH does!! He strings them along, even lets them talk for ages sometimes and then says that he's not interested. No matter how many times we ask them to remove our number, we are guaranteed to get a call teh next day!!

I had an indian person calling me a few weeks ago asking for my OH, i said that he has left and didn't live with me anymore, and he said that i was a liar and a bad woman!!!!!!!!! I was shocked!!!!

    Still getting the calls though!!!!!

Other options are, as Charco said, leave the phone for a while and go back to it a few minutes later. I used to put the phone in an empty room, or in a sock drawer in my bedroom - the possibilities for fun are endless. Of course anyone who is totally fed up with nuisance calls and has tried all the usual channels still has one option left. Change your phone number, go ex-directory, and be careful who you give your number to. Pain in the neck having to advise all your suppliers, family etc but should at least knock the nuisance calls on the head.

  • Hiya,

I've just come across this thread after a visit to Google to check on a phone number!

We've had quite a few phonecalls, which I reconise now are from the same company, in the last month or so. Along with numerous other 'cold calls'.....It's as if someone has put our phone number out there as a free for all!
Anyway, todays call....The guy asked for me by name but I wasn't going to confirm it was me. Why should I? Bloomin stranger phoning my private landline...cheeky get..
Told him he must have the wrong number and then he said that's okay as they are phoning everyone in the UK. He went on to say that he wasn't selling anything etc etc....all this was being said over me speaking! I was telling him to remove our number, not to call again etc....I then informed him that the call was being recorded following advice we had took regarding all these calls...and asked for his name so that when the company was contacted, he could be asked for my name. He pretended he couldn't hear me then! Lol...and then he hung up.

Pain in the arris these calls....I don't want to answer the phone half he time!

Our number is registered with the TPS, so how come we still get calls?
I'm very careful online etc in regards to our number..

  • Just had my second call from these people today!
Same number....Guy said he was called Hassan when I asked his name.
Again I didn't confirm anything, I just said..'one moment please' and put the phone down on the side. He hung up before it got to one minute! Lol arrisholes.

I re read this thread earlier and see how the calls are getting through.

Where is best to report these calls to?
