Love Film warning

3 years ago I took advantage of a Sainsburys free trial offer of trying out their rental service. Before the offer was over I canceled the account. As we also order DVDs to buy from various places including Lovefilm, seeing their bill of £11.97 didn't look out of place, especially as my wife sorts out the bills. To my horror it has come to light that Lovefilm carried on taking a monthly subscription from me even though I had cancelled the account for nearly 3 years !!! They say they didn't have any cancellation from Sainsburys but I certainly did cancel it.
Anyway, they are refunding me the whole amount via a cheaque which wil arrive in the next 30 days so at least I haven't lost out. To be fair, they can see by my account that I have not rented a single DVD from them over this period. Why didn't they inform me of this instead of keeping quiet and taking the money.
Beware of free trial offers

This is why you get confirmation of the account being closed, free trials are good as long as you play by the rules0

Actually that's not more bad news about LoveFilm, but good news (if you go back through the threads you'll see umpteen horror stories about this outfit.)
Last year it was thought things could only get worse when LoveFilm ostensibly took over Amazon's DVD rental business but it now seems Amazon itself took a major holding in LoveFilm, as a result of which LoveFilm's management and operation seems to have improved considerably.
As to continuing to take your payment, that's an automatic process and there's no reason to expect a LoveFilm employee to somehow intuit that one account amongst many thousands of accounts needs investigating to see if it's OK.0 -
Well at least they are refunding me which is good.0

This sounds like great service.. not poor service. Sure, something went wrong three years ago when you cancelled, but they have fixed it as soon as you brought it to their attention. Many firms would contest that you had ever cancelled correctly!

Come to think of it, the OP might consider posting this in the 'Heaven Sent' section by way of praise.0 -

I sort of had this but with Blockbuster. Had a free trial, sent DVDs back. Got confirmation saying they will cancel once they received the DVDs back. I sent the DVD back 6 days before it needed to be there, thought nothing of it. Checked account... they had taken money out causing me to go into a non-existent overdraft! grr! They were useless about it. Wouldn't refund me any money. Thanks to them Halifax charge me lots of fees for going over my limit (it was an account I never used).
Lovefilm is much better. I used to not like them at uni, as the shipping was slow, but here in London it's faster!0
