in Credit cards
Hi
Got a Barclaycard (Initial) 9 months ago with £1,100 credit limit.
I transferred balances of 2 cards too it at a promo rate of 6.9% LoB, that used up 75% of the credit limit.
I paid it all off to a zero balance then rang again to transfer another balance of £400 on the promo 6.9%.
It was refused.
I asked why and apparently you can't do it twice only upon opening.
I asked if I could change to a different card as I had paid everything on time and been a model customer. No she said you have to keep the card for a year for us to consider it.
I promptly cancelled the card much to their displeasure and have stayed with my JJB branded Sygma Bank UK Mastercard. The interest is cheaper than Barclaycard but no promo on balance transfers
Not to worry one less credit card to worry about and just stick with my JJB Mastercard.
Just wanted to let people know that if you do get a Barclaycard (Initial) be aware you can't do a second BT at 6.9% promo - available to new customers only! - ring any bells :rotfl:

I had an Initial card (got it 8 months ago) and it had a zero balance for about 3 months as I had managed to get better cards so I phoned up to cancel it and was asked why? I said that the apr was much too high at 27.9% so she asked me if I had ever asked for a rate decrease before? I said yes I had but was told (like you) that you have to have the card for 12 months before they will consider this. She then said she would 'upgrade' me to a classic card and drop the apr to 17.9% and that my record with them was 'excellent' blah de blah. Anyway, I agreed to keep the card but only for the low life of balance option and decided I would cancel at a later stage.
When my new statement came through the apr was still showing at 27.9%, phoned them up and they said 'sorry it should be 18.9%???' so I said 'no that's wrong' and then they dropped it to 12.9%. I emailed them to confirm this and got a letter through the post as well. That is actually the lowest apr I have on any of my cards, the others Tesco, egg and Halifax One will go up to 15.9% after the 0% period. I don't plan on using the Barclaycard unless if I need the 6.9% BT rate.Mortgage-free wannabe!0
