Disabled man has to crawl up his stairs

gizmo111 - Unless I'm mistaken, these guys will only deal with people in and around the Govan area, but thanks for taking the time to post.
I don't think so, they are part funded by glasgow council, so worth a call, if they cant help directly then I am sure they will point you to someone who can.
Is there no private rental in the area?
When my dad had his leg amputated him and my mum ahd no choice other than to convert downstairs diner into a bedroom for him, so other options than a converted house may hve to be considered.
Regards rehousing the council can completely disregard the 18 year old, and only provide suitable housing for the 2 adults and 2 younger children.Mama read so much about the dangers of drinking alcohol and eating chocolate that she immediately gave up reading.0 -
Im disabled and often have to crawl up the stairs to bed or the toilet, i could also weigh 25 stone if i chose to eat everything, i get very depressed as well, can i have a bungalow please??
p.s im on lots of nasty addictive and dangerous medicene also if that helps0 -
Would be worth him speaking to these guys as well http://www.limbless-association.org/index.php
They can also arrange other amps to visit for chat/motivation etc just to show there is life afterwards and help him sort the self esteem and weight out.
Get him to have a read of this as well https://www.amputeemtb.co.uk I wrote this about a year ago to help other amps get on a bike, I know he's a long way off that but it's nice to read about what you can do.0 -

Why the chip on your shoulder? Is it easier to criticize than to write something well thought out and debatable, seriously I don't understand mentality like this it's just not called for (and who's asking for a bungalow?)0 -
Rikk, thanks for that, checking it out now

gizmo, will check that out then, thanks - I understand other people's circumstances totally and in your dad's case it was maybe fortunate you had a downstairs and while not obviously 100% appropriate it's at least a stop gap till something more suitable came along but the house Eddie lives in doesnt have a downstairs it's located (and I'll be careful of my wording here) in an upstairs flat so they can't even do anything like this. I must also stress at this point (given the other remarks so far) that Eddie isn't looking for a bungalow (it was actually someone else that mentioned this) or a converted house or anything like that, they simply seek a house that Eddie can get in and out of, whether it be a flat with a ramp or a multi-story home with a lift or anything, they merely want a start to build on. The custom build house was mentioned because at that time Angela was working and could have been in a position to buy a home with the help of the Council.
Thanks again and I'll check out the govan centre

I'm amazed at the hostile replys & DISGUSTED that a bungalow can't be found or built for this man.

This is from his post
“We have been trying for five years and are top of the housing list. What if there is a fire in the block? Councils are obsessed with health and safety but they don’t seem to be bothering about me. It’s sickening.”
Makes a bl00dy good point:rolleyes:0 -
"Moreso, Eddie stays in this 2 bedroom UPPER cottage flat (I've never heard of a cottage flat? is this the actual description or something you've decided illustrates the compact nature of their dwelling?)
I was curious as to the term so googled the Castlemilk area on rightmove and it seems to be a particular style there - sort of pebbledash - seems to be used to differentiate from traditional tenament flats. There seem to be lots of 3-bed ground floor ones available sub-£500 pcm.

It seems in that area there isn't anything else to rent other than cottage flats either 2 or 3 bedroom - so if the OP doesn't want a cottage flat and that specific area it might be alternatives e.g. bungalows are in short supply.0 -
Thanks again and I'll check out the govan centre

Let us know how you get on - their solicitor is the top human rights lawyer in Scotland -on loads of awards and went to Cameroon to help women in difficult marriages late last year. Lots of detail on their site.Mama read so much about the dangers of drinking alcohol and eating chocolate that she immediately gave up reading.0 -
Thanks gizmo, I've already emailed the law centre and found a link to their branch in Castlemilk so major thumbs up on that one
