Weekends in Europe

Hi Guys
First timer on the Holiday boards (I'm too busy on the DFW one!! which I guess is a postive thing)
However me & the b/f are looking to do a weekend away in Europe and wondered what the general consensus is regarding doing package weekends away (i.e Expedia deals of flights + hotel) or is it cheaper to book the two seperately?
Any feedback most appreciated!!!
Thanks in advance

The link I posted here might be of some help:

If you can get some cheap flights together with possible £1 per night rooms, you may get a cheap weekend away somewhere. Hopefully Ryanair may have an offer to coincide.

LittleEmms,
depends where you fancy going and what you want to do.
We have done a lot of weekends in Europe and we manage to get some good deals on Lastminute. Paris, Rome, Prague, Venice, Florence, Seville included
One example is where we were offered the use of the SILs apartment in Murcia. By the time we costed for flights, car hire and food it ended up cheaper for 3 nights 4* B&B in Paris including Eurostar!
Good luck0 -
Agree with others, depends on where you're going and if you get some cheap budget flights, just cost up both options when you're thinking about where and when!2p off is still 2p off!0

Ok - we're swinging towards Barcelona in May.
Problem is we live right by Heathrow & when you take into account the petrol & parking for another airport - if we can get it cheap enough - we may as well go from Heathrow - if we can get a deal that is!LBM - 17th November 2008 - better late than never

I've been before with Easyjet and got some very cheap flights, they did have a sale recently but I heard BMI have a good sale on at the moment too.
I have in the past booked apartments through www.rent4days.com but booked a hotel through Lastminute.com this time as they had a special offer on.
I would highly recommend Barca and am off there again in June for the Festival Saint Joan2p off is still 2p off!0 -
We fly from EMA and generally find it cheaper to do the whole thing separately - flights with a budget airline and hotel from a booking site. It means we can choose our hotel from reviews also.
However, if I was looking to go in May, I probably already would have booked something to get the best deal on flights. So in that respect, I don't know if a package would be better.
If you are a member of a cashback site, you often get more cashback for booking a package, than individual items, so that might also be something to consider.0 -
Thanks guys - I do need to become a member of a cashback site!! Something else to add to the list!!

The problem I found with Expedia, living in the regions, is that their flights never seem to be direct. If you do go with them, check that they are - I expect they are much more likely to be direct from Heathrow.0
