Advice Required On Memoryfoam Mattress And Razor Blades Please

Options
Strange combination but thought I would put both queries in one post:

My part and I use Gillette Fusion Standard and Gillette Fushion Power ( I had to buy her one for hwr legs to stop her nicking mine!!). It has come to the time when new razor blades are required but they seem so expensive. I just wondered if anyone knew of any deals or where to buy at lowest price please?

Finally my partner has been nagging about getting a Double Memory foam mattress and I want to surprise her. I have seen a Silent night one at T G Hughes for about £199. A friend says I have to get one for at least 75 something pressure but did not understand. Any ideas or advice would be very welcome please?

Thank you

  • Asda have an offer on the Gillette Fusion 4-packs at the moment, but they're still only marginally cheaper than everywhere else: the Manual blades are 2 (x4) for 14 quid, the Power blades are 2 (x4) for 18 quid. The Manual blades are compatible with the Power razor by the way.
Every now and again the Champions promotional packs are on offer in most supermarkets and the likes of Superdrug and Boots. These consist of a razor and six blades (Manual), or a razor with five blades and a battery (Power). These usually go for around 8 quid.

We bought the same matress from TJ Hughes. We were a bit wary but for the price, and the fact our existing matress was in a terrible state we had a punt.

We have not had any problems and in fact find it very comfortable. It takes some getting used to after a normal matress though.
Never put off till tomorrow what you can do today!
Cos if you do it today and like it...You can do it again tomorrow.. :p

Before you buy, do a search on Silentnight in the forums.

The best type of memory foam mattress is the type that also has pocket springs. The memory foam should be between 2" and 2.5" deep, and the density should be between 60 and 70kg per m3.

There is loads more info in the which mattress thread.

Think i might have similiar mattress from silentnight we bought it from Makro a couple years ago, It was all foam and came rolled up was about £200. i'll have a look to see if it has a model number later

Its probably not the best memory foam one but for the price it was a good buy as we find it very comfortable, its firm but soft to lay on which is great for my bad back. Only problem is i find most spring mattresses a bit strange & uncomfortable now as it feel like i'm perched on top and i've got used to sinking into the foam one, which isn't great when i'm away. Some people find they can get too hot with some memory foam matresses, but i feel the cold so hasn't been a problem for me.

I have a double 7cm deep 80kg/m3 memory foam mattress on order from the Duvet and Pillow Warehouse, it's £120 in the sale but they won't get stock until the end of March. I also ordered an all-seasons duvet which I already received. I went through Quidco and got £13 back two weeks after I ordered. :D
  • Don't combine the two?

    Sorry, I'll get me coat...

That sounds like just a topper at 7cm, not a mattress.

Tim Deegan, Yes you are right, sorry, it will go on top of our existing mattress. I thought that was what the OP was looking for as it's unlikely you would get an actual memory foam 'mattress' (15-20cm deep) for £200 or less. I looked at a Silentnight one in TJ Hughes and it was no thicker than our old 4 cm one. It looked nothing like the picture.

Memory foam only mattresses don't actually exist. If you had a 100% memory foam mattress then you would sink down most of the depth of the mattress, and become engulfed by it (and very hot).

Memory foam mattresses come in three basic designs:
    1. Reflex foam with memory foam. You will find that most memory foam mattresses are constructed like this for a couple of reasons. a) any idiot can make one. You just need to take a slab of reflex foam, glue a sheet of memory foam to it, then put it in a cover. b) they are often vacuum packed and rolled up to make transport cheaper. So for the above reasons there have been loads of companies starting up to jump on the memory foam band wagon, although very few are actually experienced bed manufacturers. Due to the lack of air flow these mattresses can be hot.
    2. Open coil sprung with memory foam. These are similar to reflex foam with memory foam as far as support goes. However the avantage is that air can circulate through the spring layer to dissipate the heat. These mattresses are also usually made by experienced bed manufacturers, and therefore the quality and performance is often better.
    3. Pocket sprung with memory foam. This category can be split into two sections a) there is the type with full size proper pocket springs, so you get the benefits of the contouring from the pocket springs combined with the pressure relieving support from the memory foam moulding to your body. The air can also flow freely through the spring layer. There are also now a few manufacturers who are making this type of mattress with memory foam on both sides, so it can be turned to increase the life of the mattress. b) There is now an inferior type of pocket sprung and memory foam mattress on the market that contains smaller pocket springs that are encapsulated in reflex foam. So you don't get the same level of support that you do with the full size pocket springs, and due to the reflex foam surrounding the springs, you don't get the air flow through the mattress.
With all the above you should make sure that the memory foam is 2" to 2.5" deep, and that the density is between 60 and 70kg per m3.

You can find both the first and second type for under £200. However there are quite a few reflex foam/memory foam mattresses of very low quality (usually from China) on the market.
