Hello, my boyfriend and I are planning a trip to Thailand in July, we are inteding to leave on Monday the 10th (just in case England get to the world cup final & so we can watch the tour de france set off in London) and return approximately three weeks later.
We want to spend about 6 or 7 days in Bangkok and then we'll go to chang mai (where my boyfriends sister lives), one of the island and possibly Laos.
Now our problem is that a direct flight is looking like it'll cost at least £700 pounds & then of course there are the various internal flights etc...
Does anyone know of any cheap deals on flights (pref to bkk of chang mai)
Thanks in advance (btw if anyone else is going Thailand and wants some suggestions of where to go my boyfriend will be only to pleased to help)
Cheers

My boyfriend will be happy!0 -
Go to https://www.bangkokbob.net an excellent website for info on Thailand. Internal flights are cheap in Thailand. When you book your long haul flight to Bangkok ask if there are any free internal flights deals available.0

Also have a look at this site a wealth of information on all things Thailand. There are several sub-forums

Have you also considered going by train from BKK to Chiang Mai ?

You'll get cheaper flights that stop en-route like Dubai or somewhere. It adds time to the flight but is usually cheaper. Try a Google search for flights or with something like Travelocity. Sorry can't help you more with flights . I travel to Thailand but not from the UK !0 -
Hi,
I would recommend you to a few reliable agents who Thai students usually buy tickets from:
http://www.westeasttravel.com
http://www.etours-online.com
Of course, you should also check expedia, opodo, ebookers, travelocity and lastminue to compare.0 -
If your only there for 3 weeks 6-7 days in Bangkok is quite a long time, I have had mixed reactions from people that have been there but I for one really enjoyed it. Instead of flying, I would utilise the train network. I travelled from Bangkok down to the Islands of Ko Samui and Ko Pang yang (Spelling? lol) on the night train. 12hr trip that only costs a few pounds. You can sleep on it too so your saving on a hotel. Depending on what floats your boat the half and full moon parties on Ko Pang Yang are good fun and watching Wimbledon on the beach with a few cold beers was great until Henman goes out of course...0

See if Asia's version of RyanAir has any of the cheap regional flights that you want.
AirAsia (now everyone can fly!)0 -

I agree, 6-7 days in Bangkok is ALOT. Even after you did the touristy stuff like Grand Palace etc, and a couple days shopping, 3-4 would be more than enough.
Unless you were going to do day trips from Bangkok like to Erawan Falls, or 2 hours away to a floating market (fabulous experience)
Chang Mai is lovely and I far preferred it to Bangkok.
Have a good time****************************0 -
A more reliable alternative to Air Asia is NOK AIR; http://www.nokair.com/nokconnext/aspx/welcome.aspx?currlang=en-US
A subsidiary of Thai Airways.
There are a few problems regarding the ownership of Air Asia at the moment.
You can fly to Samui with Bangkok Airways for £36 each way if you take the first or last flight of the day.
Alternatively, you can use their Discovery Airpass for some of your internal flights; http://www.bangkokair.com/spoffer Though it's not the bargain that it used to be, there are some possible savings available.
Don't discount indirect flights. They may only add a couple of hours each way and save you a couple of hundred pounds per person. Plus a chance to stretch your legs midway. Qatar Airways comes in at around £530 for your dates on ebookers. They have cheaper options, but with a longer stopover.
Qatar Airways have won a 5* rating on SkyTrax.0
